Forums - Nintendo - Do you believe Nintendo, when they say they will continue to support the Wii U?

They will support it till the next home console launches. Many people are saying 2016, but i dont think so. 2017 seems likely to me.

Yeah but, after 2015, there might be a serious game drought.

Nope. Most of Nintendo's teams are working on their next console which will probably be out in 2016. We'll probably get a Zelda and Metroid but that's about it.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Do I trust much of anything Nintendo says? NO! They have not treated Wii U owners well- That being said, I do not think they will drop support of the Wii U w in the next 2+/- years from a literal stand point- but it appears they have already dropped it from a practical standpoint- They will do as little as possible, spend as little money as possible to keep t going for 2 or s more years. IMO it seems they have tanked the Wi U intentionally because they could not be as incompetent as they have acted since the initial Wi U announcement. I know they are buying back a billion of so dollars in stock coming up so maybe they wanted to keep their stock price low until they have bought the shares they want- then maybe they will kick into gear w the Wi u- otherwise they can t/won t even release more than 1 VC game a week, they have not done a thing to shore up the evaporating 3rd party support, they have not finished upgrading some of the console issues via updates yet, and most of the games they are making are platformers even though there are already plenty of platformers on the Wii U since day 1- platformers don t cost as much as 3d games so I m sure that is why- the market wants Metroid- but lets give them ANOTHER Donky Kong.

With the Wii U Nintendo has burned all the goodwill I had for it - I would never make a purchase based on anything they said- I would never by another Nintendo console at launch or close-

I can't hate on them. They're pulling out all guns this year and I think they'll start moving consoles too. They can't blame anyone though. They brought this on themselves.

Sadly this. Funny how this could said for the wii 2 or 3 years ago.

No, they'll support the Wii U for at least 5 years total. So 2012 to 2017.

Q1 of 2015 will mark WiiU's end of SW announcements most probably. So until then.

Clearly I dont believe them. They will drop WiiU HW production after Q1 2016.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

2015 will be the last year they will support Wii u, then a new console... is not like every generation?

Yeah, I trust them. They would be stupid if they discontinued Wii U before 2016, since they would lose a ton of fans on that move.

Sure, at least through 2015. I think the sales of MK8 will determine if any more projects are greenlit for 2016 and beyond, however.
