Something that changes the industry dramatically like touchscreens or anime styles and etc, for example:

As you can see, anime has come a long way and each new iteration was innovative imo because it changed the anime drawning style, also its not always an improvement like from 1980s to 1990s... Seriously I have no idea what the fuck they were thinking when they went from 1980-1990s... Thank fucking god for KyotoAni

I remember going back to DBZ after a couple years and thinking how weird ChiChi looked. The 90s were certainly a weird time. o.o

The 90's had trouble identifying itself, it tried to be many things 50-80's and new at the same time.

This explains it quite well.

The guy is known for talking about comics / movies / games / cartoons to his audience. So it's not that off.

I just googled imaged her just to get a refresh on how she used to look... Dont do that, 90% of the images will ruin not only your childhood, but your child's childhood

I don't think everything can be described as an innovation. It still has to be new and original.

Hence DS4 speaker is not innovative since the Wii U and Wii had one, but the lightbar is.

2000 = 7/10

1990 = 1/10

1980 = 10/10

1970 = 8/10

1960 = 6/10

I never knew the 90's sucked. Was too busy enjoying the fast developments in video games, the golden years of TNG series, and the birth of trance music. Plus my favorite movie is from the 90's.

I never said it sucked, neither does the video, just that it was an odd time period that hard trouble identifying itself.

Anyhow, we are really derailing the thread.

There is another rule to innovation most people forget:
Innovation = success
If a novel idea has no impact on the market and future product it is not innovative.

I hate that innovation has become this ultimate buzzword(like cinematic) that has to be present in every single game or the game is considered boring. Innovation, no matter in which field, happens so rarely, yet people expect every new product to have it or they won't consider it worth buying. They don't realize that evolution is at least as important as innovation. Taking innovative ideas and incorporating them in the most efficient way is the other corner stone of progress.

 I don't need innovation. I would be content if people use the same ideas we have now and just make quality games with them and use them in creative ways.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Innovation is key because without it, no matter what industry or field, you stagnate. It's actually one of the key attributes that makes the humans so great at survival from an evolutionary standpoint; our brains allow us to innovate solutions to complex problems. Now you may have innovative solutions that don't take off, but without risk takers we wouldn't get anywhere.

The problem isn't with innovation, but a lot of people claim innovation when they've simply iterated on previous work. True innovation is actually rare.
