Majora's Mask's appeal is hard to guage due to the required peripheral. Similar to Skyward Sword, in a way. Both came late in their console's lives with very little else supporting the console at the time (though N64 had a better last year than either GC or Wii) and required a peripheral to function.

I'd argue that the game has a lot that could really sell, namely the focus on building a living, breathing world, and the three-day system hurting the game's linearity (though it was still linear in the end). The game could do well to appeal to modern action-adventure fans who crave something more along the lines of a Skyrim or GTA. Majora's Mask is the Zelda that was closest in that direction.

Using its world as a jumping off point for a game with broader appeal is sound. However, Nintendo still believes the appeal of Zelda is in the narrative and puzzles. They wouldn't entertain that direction.

It's more likely that an MM sequel would be an appeal to nostalgia. To the people who should have already bought a Wii U for WW HD. That's not an efficient use of marketing message bandwidth.

I would prefer a whole new entry and not a sequel to another Zelda title. I think weve had enough remakes and sequels for a few years.

Nah I don't think so.

The WiiU game will be something completely original but may have links (heh) and hints to either Ocarina or Twilight Princess in it's story or locations.

I agree the presence of Majora's Mask in A Link Between Worlds could be a hint at something to come, but I think it would at most be a hint to the development of Majora's Mask 3D. I don't think a potential remake would come to WiiU since Majora is a sequel to Ocarina which is already on 3DS. It could also be an elaborate way to give a hint to the new game being the 'third Hero of Time game', but I don't believe that will happen. There's also still a big chance that the mask was just there for fun, nothing more, though that would be cruel.

Yet I think, a new game actually featuring Majora or the Mask can't happen; it's quite definitely destroyed by Link in that game and the evil defeated. Moreover the Happy Mask Salesman takes the Mask away to who knows where afterwards. They won't make a game directly tying in to that story-arc because they always make stand-alone games, especially if it's the first on a system. There also can't be any prequel, because the legacy of the Links only exists in Hyrule and not in Termina, which is simultaneously also the reason there can't be a sequel taking place in Termina anyway because Link leaves it at the end...

Can't wait though to finally know exactly what Aonuma is cooking .

It will be one where something bad happens an a guy names Link, that the press will call Zelda. Has to go do things to save some girl/princess named Zelda and probably his local town. There will be some visions and/or dreams, and puzzles to solve.

And Link will use a sword and probably a bow. Well, that's my take.

PS Have they ever made a Zelda Sequel?



 

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

All the Majora's Mask references and "hints" have been pointing to a Majora's Mask remake for 3DS. I expect that to be announced sometime this year for a Spring 2015 release. As for the next NEW Zelda for Wii U...who knows? We'll find out at E3! :D
