Square will probably make it FF VII (online) even tho its a single player game you will have to pay an online fee for it to be playable.

I mean after fucking up the FF series with online installments that are not called ONLINE but instead rob a main series number from a potential good game like they did with XI etc. and the same happening to DragonQuest X being online....

The most stupid thing square can do is making it online and then being PS exlusive rofl.... Probably will happen.

Or its just FFVII with shit graphics (PS1) and you have to buy "graphics upgrade DLC" for every single character, item, location etc.....

Its pretty obvious by now that MS dug really deep to stop Versus from beinge exclusive to the PS3. This is the perfect game for Sony to shell out the money to third parties to make. If they are going to do it, it might as well be for the game that started it all with the Playstation brand.

Most likely different teams

i for one never played ff7 so I will be excited to see what the hype is all about!

If you played VI or X you will be disappointed.

Why?  I have played vi and x and I thought vii was the best final fantasy ever made...

You are the exact reason why i would be disappointed. Even more than a decade later, the game is still overhyped and overrated. It is not, objectively, the best final fantasy ever made. Every Final Fantasy was directed with the same greatness, VII is just the one that suits the most your tastes.

VII like any Final Fantasy had flaws, like a storyline with a lot of fake twists, and I didn't find the protagonist in any way interesting. And the post game grinding was boring too.

Are you trying to say that FF games cannot be ranked? because I think they can objectively in a few things. I don't see the issue with guaging fan reception + sales as a reasonable means of quantifying each entry's popularity.

FFVII and X are the two highest selling(# of units) in the series, both highly rated. They have their issues such as translation flubs but over all they are seen as the creme of the crop.

FFVIII is almost unversally panned as one of if not the WORST FF game, FFXIII is very close to it. They both have broken combat and leveling systems and are reviewed much lower than avg FF game. Sales wise they are competent but not as high as VII and X.

VI and IV are regarded very highly by fans but they don't really come close to sales of PS1 era FFs.Frequently are in top 10 jrpg lists.

With this info you can visibly see FFVII, X, VI and IV are of the better ones, leaving the rest to fight for the bottom. VII has the most fans(proven by sales) so yes, it is the defacto "most popular" FF game.

Xbox One exclusive, to compensate for FF X exclusivity.

LOL that would be the biggest slap to the face to PS fans. They waited all this time for a remake only for it to come on a console that never even had it in the first place.

OT: I won't believe it until I see it. There's always someone saying it is happening but it's never developed any further than rumours.

I find it funny when people say this... Final fantasy 1-6 were exclusive to Nintendo consoles, and I never found it to be a slap in the face to that fan base.... It's a game, made by a third party on a machine from 15 years ago.... If people can't grasp the concept of a company needing to make money and release games that "were never released on that console", because if ms got it exclusively(which I doubt) they would have paid for it, big. Something tells me Sony fans would cry foul even if it simply was on both. Gimme a break... (And I'm not saying this directly to you)

Do any of you even remember what started the rumor and fervant anticipation of FFVII remake?

This is why everyone wanted the FFVII HD Remake. This Tech Demo sold many on the PS3 and the possibility of it looking this good was oh so tantalizing. If they are making this game it could not be an iOS/Android port, as they could not pull off a full HD version of this Demo's caliber which is what it needs to be. It would have to be PS3/4 or its just time to pack it up and go home.

I don't see why SE is so resistant to the concept tho. It really can't be that hard. Yes they would have to recreate all the enviornments..........but they churned out FFXIII-2 and LR:FFXIII in like 2 year dif. The graphical fidelity of the demo is on par with FFXIII, which regardless of perception, is a very pretty game. The story is already made, you just fill in the dialogue with vocals with only the slightest tweak to make for a better localization. Yea, there are some odd ball moments that can be seen as racy(Don Corneo Missions,Cloud Drag, Barret's potty mouth,Gay Hot Tub exploits, Prostitutes, etc) but its really not that strange when seeing some of the stuff we have gotten before(X-2 has a very sexually driven massage mini game, many games have out gay characters so the subject is no longer taboo). They had to hide these parts from the media then, but now we really are ok with it as a society.

Combat, just do it like they do all the International Versions. Offer the ability to just play it like the original, or utilize some new mechanics that they think fit and will enrich the gameplay.

Open World: don't know why SE struggles so much with this concept when so many other developers do it with ease. NiNoKuni.....has open world and HD towns. Its ok to still use Chibi deformed characters on Over Head Map, no one will mind.

BAM!!!! Now you have a 5+million seller without needing to do much work.

How about no? Japan would explode. Its about time Microsoft start fending for themselves, they've been picking away at everyone elses games for a good long while as well.

But as I recall final fantasy started on a Nintendo console, as did metal gear etc

i don't get why sony fans thinks it pertains to them, when it doesn't!

Square would have to be insane not to do it. Theres rivers of money to be made.

Not only that but the tools and assets could easily be repurposed to remake FFVIII aswell. Their asthetics are simillar.

I hope it's not happening. The medium needs to go forward, not have millions of dollars thrown at a plot, characters and gameplay systems that were created 15 years ago, just to update them.

That is hilarious. How did moving towards FFXIII felt like an improvement to you? RPG's on the PSOne era were leaps and bounds better than what we have today. The best way to move back towards that excellence is to revisit what made them great in the first place. Its not just to make the next poop game that pops to mind.

Fun fact regarding that tech demo.

Type "Final Fantasy" into YouTube and sort by view count. Here -

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_sort=video_view_count&search_query=final+fantasy

Not only is Final Fantasy VII the most popular search, but the Tech Demo itself is the most viewed FF video (closing in on 8 Million) and 7(!) out of the Top 10 videos are FFVII related.

Metal Gear started on Microsoft's MSX but the modern MGs and FFs started on the PS1 with FF7 and MGS1. Then after those games were considered to be big Playstation exculsives for the PS2 and (originally) PS3. Given the right opportunities (like the Xbox 360) these games were always bound to be multiplat, times change and so do markets.

Metal Gear Solid started on the Nintendo console, but gained fame on the Playstation console. Do the math. No one thinks the game should be exclusive but its about time Sony start paying for some exclusives and playing hardball since its getting super competitive right now.FFVII and Playstation are pretty much synonymous and if it was to come out who better than Sony to fund it? Seriously. Its history, don't think i am making a fanboy rant. Its just history. I never grew up playing Final Fantasy on Nintendo, and I never grew up playing Banjo Kazooie and Killer Instinct on the Xbox either. Anything can happen in this crazy world, but the only reason I am saying what I said is because it would make sense. Nintendo is even paying for Bayonetta, so who is bitching? I am buying a Wii u later on.
