Forums - Sony - Launch-Day PS4 Stock Readily Available in Japan (DOOOOOOOOOM)

According to NeoGaf posters from Japan who are generally pretty reliable it's not terribly difficult to find a PS4 on storeshelves.

I think they still will sell 200k-300k first week. Even the Vita and Wii U did that.

It's after that where sales will slow a lot ... not a whole lot of Japanese centric content for the rest of the year unless Square-Enix miraculously delivers a Final Fantasy XV (good luck).

I said it many times ... Japan = handheld smartphone country.

FIXED =P

3DS and Monster Hunter in general would like to have a word with you.

Technically, the 3DS isn't doing so hot there, anymore.  Don't get me wrong, it is doing pretty well.  It's just that the struggling consoles around it are what makes it look better than it truly is.

@ OP

The only thing I got from this article is that the places around him are very qiuet during launches.  He said it seems almost exactly like when the Wii U launched, but that did 400K 306K, which is very good.  He says the difference is that he has actually seen people leaving stores with PS4s.  So, I guess it's going a little better for the PS4 than the Wii U, which means my prediction of 401K may come true.

Japanese here those pictures were taken January 20th at midnight before the stores were open lol, according to my aunt the PS4 sold around 500k so far

who is your aunt? must be in a very important position to know the figures so early.

she's a vp

500k consoles sold in Japan on day One is amazing nowdays, more than what I was expecting = 350k.   We'll discover soon.  If Sony focus a bit more on Japan, we could have another PS2 in terms of selling numbers. PS : PS4 already sold much much more than PS2 in the same time frame.

Now people can't say it's sold out everywhere.

PS4 is doomed not even Vita can save it!

A picture only tells that much.
This could be taken anytime.

We'll see when the numbers come out.

It is very possible that Sony grossly overestimated the demand on home territory and overshipped, I could see why their expectations would be high after the record launches in NA and Europe. Then again; if guys like you and me on an internet forum have been seeing this decline in the traditional Japanese market in the past years, I'm pretty sure they're aware of it as well.

Such a mystery this. I'm genuinely curious to see these FW figures to see what's what. And I'm even more curious to see what kind of stable baseline we'll once there is no doubt that supply is suficient across the board.

3DS is doing good, i think tht 2012-2013 #s make many people say this. those years were amoung the top of HW sales in japan ever.

I think a healthy sales number (for HH) is 25k-40k a week. Lets not forget 3DS is already at the 15mil mark, which means not that many people need 3DS's anymore :)

Guess my safe prediction of 400k wasn really that safe.

If the numbers were impressive,  Sony would have said something by now

Lol, that's not true.  The PS4 launched to record breaking numbers in EU, but Sony waited til the 3rd day to say anything.  I'm sure Sunday or Monday they will say something.  At least give an update on the overall sellthrough number.
