I went to Osaka's otaku/gaming/anime/electronics district DenDen Town during the afternoon/early evening today (Monday 2/24). It is sort of like a slightly smaller Akihabara and here is what I found.
Every store (about eight in total) I went in to had some stock of the PS4. I took pictures in the stores where I was able to see the actual machines and take pictures of them without being noticed by staff.
Guy in front of one of the Sofmap stores touting PS4.
PS4 stock at the Sofmap.
More PS4 consoles on the second floor of the store.
Take-to-the-till boxes at A-Too.
Stock at the non-retro Super Potato store.
I can't wait to see the numbers, but it seems like a much softer launch than in the West.
of course itll be a much softer launch. its less than 1/3 the population of NA. ~300K would be on par with NA numbers.
Now, with this out of the way give us more PS4s elsewhere Sony. And Japan this is why your last on the launch schedule.

Except that there is no competition on the Japanese market whereas in Xbox country the competition is huge. Just imagine US numbers without Xbox.
300K would be a bit unmderwhelming. But I also think that compared to the rest of the worls Japan had more stock to begin with.
