Forums - Sony - Launch-Day PS4 Stock Readily Available in Japan (DOOOOOOOOOM)

Not surprised that it bombed in Japan at all. PS4 has no games that Japanese people want to play and home consoles have been on a huge decline over there.

Now Sony will have to turn their attention back to the Western side of the world and figure out how they are going to compete in March against Titanfall.

...and yet there is not a single Xbox One avaliable in any store.

Is it possible we are seeing a complete reversal of the western situation here?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Funny how everyone knows what games japanese people want to play all of a sudden.

We know they don't want to play COD, BF, or KZ and well nobody wants to play Knack. I doubt anyone is going to shell out hundreds for a 2 hour MGS demo either. FF XV and KH III are probably years away as well.

From launch day when I picked up a third console at 4pm, i was informed that the majority of the stores stock had sold within an hour of opening.

So what are you gonna do with your 3 consoles? You know you're still missing anopther one to be cool.

One US retail, one Japanese debug, and now one Japanese retail too.

If the power supply wasnt 100-240v I would probably have bought a PAL one in UK over christmas too.

Yes, in Japan, they never have the actual consoles on the floor. They do have lots of display boxes on the floor, but that is not what my picture above is of. It is "Take-to-the-till" boxes that do go back out onto the floor. However, the actual stock in a store would be greater than the number of "Take-to-the-till" boxes on the floor. The Joshin store above also had a massive mountain of actual PS4 boxes (yes, with the handle) behind the counter.

Naturally, anecdotal evidence is not the whole picture, but if I can go in to a total of five different stores late on launch day and the day after launch and all of them have stock, that doesn't look great. Of course, without knowing the allocation, this can mean any number of things.

They had a wall of those "take to the counter" box's for GTA5 here for the 360 until the last actual copy of it sold out, at which point my gamestop put a "out of stock" sticker on all the empty boxes of the games, the number of those box's used to make display stands =/= indication of how many systems will be in the store room since obviously they do not remove any consoles from their box to display those empty boxes on the shop floor....

If that is too confusing, which it might be because I'm rather tired... 5 shops with displays which show they're have ps4's available the only concrete number you can take from this is there are 5 unsold PS4 systems there, anything else is speculation.

Psst, initial reports have pegged BF as the third highest selling game, and KZ as the 6th highest selling.
And that  "2 hour demo" you talk about? that, that right there is the highest selling.

So yeah, what you "know" and reality, are completely different things.

As long as it sells more than the PS3, and more than the wii-u (which was remember in a holiday season), I think that will be considered a success.

I don't think the Doom comments help. PS4 is currently selling at record levels, it's outselling it's nearest competitor 2.1 in the USA, and nearly overtaken the Wii-u in less than 3 months, and people seem to get excited that there might be some bad selling news. It's one market we know has been turned off console gaming for a while, if it sells bad in Japan, then there is no hope in Japan for any console. MS haven't even got a date for XBO yet, and the wii-u is not doing that great either.

it's not even bad news lol, it's the fact that stores in Japan have PS4's in stock.
