If Sony had MS's money they would buy 3rd party support too but they don't. Not taking anything away from there 1st party games as they are exceptional. People think they choose not to do it because they are too good for it is ridiculous.

I really don't understand the point of this thread considering Sony is literally having difficulty keeping PS4's in stock at retail due to the continued demand. I mean sure, this may have held true if the demand had begun to wane post launch, but it hasn't. This fact alone essentially invalidates the entirety of the OP.
And just to quickly address Microsoft and their "Over The Top" launch of the Xbox One, heads up, they had no choice in the matter after the absolute PR Fiasco during E3 and the months following. It was a form of continued damage control more than anything else.

The morality of buying 3rd party support is preposterous.
The only reason its pegged as bad for Microsoft, is because they have so few in house studios. So when they aren't releasing Halo, Forza, or Gears they are just keeping games away from the Competitors.

Microsoft has more studios than Sony, they are just terrible at making games. They are much better at publishing other peoples games after scouting them. Sony sucks at scouting games. Warframe and Planetside are two PC games that wont have major success on consoles. They are too bland and not very interesting.
I think Sony should continue with their humble pie / nostalgia approach it seems to be working. The last thing they need to do is change what's not broken and I think more sales of the PS4 will do all the courting they need.

Form deals and keep them away from the competition. Really? Warframe? Planetside? No. Leave those games on PC. Hate to break it to you but the majority of console gamers like top notch, twitch run and gun shooters. 2. Stop being so artsy fartsy with your commercials and launches.
Don't confuse casuals and non-gamers. Just show off the games and put your insignia behind it. 3.Microsoft makes their launches sociable, fun and the life of the party.
Make more commercials that make third party titles seem like they are only on your platform. Let celebrities in on the action. Go to Europe and invite national teams to your events and represent the Soccer clubs like Microsoft represents the NFL in America. There are actually teams that gave away Xbox Ones to their players at launch. I know so many gamers who thought COD: MW was an Xbox 360 exclusive because of the commercialism. Sony is starting to implement this method that Microsoft uses, but they need more of it. 4. Push up the marketing deadlines for your commercials pertaining to exclusives or to create hype for games coming out later.
Want to maximize sales? Increase the demand. Show off your games in movie theaters and billboards months ahead of time. When Halo 4 was coming out they had everyone believing that not only was Halo 4 the shit but that Mountain Dew and Doritos were the official food of Halo months before the launch. Manipulative? Yes, but it worked. Gametrialers was even in on it. Because of Sony's sales on the PS3 with specific games their commercials need to come out much sooner than later. They also need to target periods when consumers will have the most dispoable income. Microsoft launches their top games around that time. 5. Commercialize the PS4 as the place everyone wants to be.
As I've shown you Microsofts ace card in the industry is masterful commercialism and expert strategy. If Sony did this they wouldn't have half of the problems that they have. Cover up your weaknesses. Sonys biggest weakness is having gaps between the launch and launching their biggest games. Be like Microsoft in that sense. Cover up your weaknesses so commercially it seems like you don't have any. I write this because this is exactly why I bought an Xbox before a PS3. Sure Sony will have the games, but that doesn't mean they couldn't cover up weak spots like Microsoft does. |
To the OP:
Do you even know what you're talking about? Even the most hardcore Xbox fanboys could admit that the PS4's launch was flawless.
1. So I guess Deep Down from Capcom doesn't count right? And who are you to say we don't want PC games? Everyone has been happy with it so far and it's not like we're sacrificing anything? The more games the better.
2. Sony ramped up their marking division big time this gen. These commercials have a unique flair to them and even a lot of people I know who aren't really ps fans were hyped after seeing them. Again it boils down to personal preference. You're the only one who doesn't seem to like these commercials.
3. Didn't they do that for AC4?
4. I'll let that one slide. Some games last gen were marketed properly.
5. Thats already done.
Tell me one weakness Sony has with the PS4?... Exactly...
I'll forgive you though since the Dorritos God prayer was hilarious xD

Sony doesn't have Microsoft's money, but PlayStation has XBOX's money.
These are huge billion (is Sony still a billion?) dollar corporations. As long as they're not filing for bankruptcy, they can both spend a lot of money on things. Sony would have no problem getting $50 million to pay for a game if that's what they decided was a smart business move. They don't do it because they'd rather spend that $50 million in house with much higher returns on the investment.
Your argument is as silly as the ones back in 2012 about Sony not even having enough money to make a next gen system.

Yeahhhh, it loses billions every year :D
While I agree about securing top 3rd party exclusives, and throwing good parties, I don't agree about the marketing.
PlayStation's current branding is strong. The marketing has moved from weird to in touch with the times, and has also caused some nostalgia with old fans of PlayStation too.
Plus they aren't stepping wrong, making themselves sound like they're spinning the truth every time. Because they are genuinely doing well, they can release positive PR without bending the truth. Some of the antics MS has been pulling, diverting attention with meaningless stats and using ambiguous language is really bad. People are not that stupid.
PS. All this stuff about XB1 being the official console of the NFL, and PS4 sold more copies of Madden.
PPS. What would be really funny is to see some commercials like those Mac vs PC commercials Apple used to do.
ps4 - Hi, I'm a PS4.
xb1 - And I'm an XB1, and I can run all the same games.
ps4 - Yes but do they run as well?
xb1 - Well no, but you can do this. "Xbox, turn on".
ps4 - Cool.
ps4 - I can run games with nearly no installation time. [launches straight into a game]
xb1 - Well I can watch TV while the game spends 15 minutes installing. "Xbox watch live tv"
ps4 - Cool...... not.
ps4 - Let me share a video of what I've been playing. Click, click, done.
xb1 - Oh yeah well watch this. "Xbox, snap Internet Explorer".... "I said, Xbox, snap in In-ter-net Explorer"..... struggles in frustration
ps4 - Sounds like... hours of fun. And this is, $500?
xb1 - Yeah.
