Forums - Gaming - Facebook buys WhatsApp for $16 Billion

I guess it was competing too much with Facebook chat. Perhaps they will now merge the two services together. But most data plans these days offer unlimited texting, so I don't see this purchase paying off.

That makes Whatsapp more valuable then either Sony or Nintendo....

Not really. Sony would have costed them probably 100B$+ and Nintendo around 25B$. However, no one would purchase Sony because they have so much debt but they are worth around 100B$.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

OP: I never thought that whatsapp was worth so much O_O.

I hope they will not connect it with each other -.-

This.

They need to keep it exactly how it is now..not turn it into another facebook messenger or link it in anyway to facebook.

If they start making changes allot of the userbase will just leave.

I'm already having my doubts *sighs*

That number doesn't make sense to me. There's no possible way they spent that much money. You could buy pretty much any company in America for that much. This is just an app. Do I not know shit about business or something?

Currently playing:

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9

How the hell do they plan to make the investment back?
Also, I hope it doesn't mean I need to move to another messenger >_>

Jeez ... imagine if Facebook made a play for Nintendo ... having Mario/Pokemon games exclusive to Facebook would kill it for them.

Never heard of whatsapp :S

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

How would Sony cost them $100bn? Sony's market cap currently is $17.7bn.
