What.....? is that a Starbucks Coffee I see in the background? I thought American products don't do well in Japan? So that means the PlayStation will do well. Okay.

You are incorrect. Apple for example is loved in Japan.

Its all about the company. Greedy company that doesnt think about their customers andalso names their system Death box is never gonna see sucess in Japan. Imagine if the Xbox was called Death box in the US. Do you think it would do as well? Thats the kind of disdain Microsoft showed the Japanese. They responded in kind.

According to Wikipedia the most reliable source on the internet these are Japans launch titles

PS4's sales in Japan will be pretty good in 2014 and probably a bit of 2015 as well, but they won't mean that much in the long run.  You guys may hate me for saying  this, but I don't expect the PS4 to reach PS3 sales in Japan. I actually think Japan will be the only region where the PS4 will sell less than the PS3.

Err...that is really hilariously funny as Playstation 4 can be read as Playstation Death. Four is an unlucky number here because one of the ways to say four is shi, which also means death. Therefore, you can see why your statement is pretty funny.

Apple is loved here in Japan, but whenever there are viable domestic alternatives, they generally prefer those. By the time Android was a viable alternative with domestic phone brands like Toshiba, Sharp, Panasonic, and Sony, Apple already had a sizeable foothold. There are lots of other examples like Starbucks, various American fast-food chains, and Windows computers being quite popular here while American cars are pretty rare.

Japan also do not necessarily follow the rest of the world with game consoles as the Genesis/MegaDrive and N64 were never popular here while the Sega Saturn was, for example. Therefore, the reasons why the Xbox has so far failed in Japan relatively speaking is more complex than your reductive "greedy company" or the name.

Why do you think this?

OT: Yessir I'm expecting half a mil sold in Japan at launch.  I'd be surprised at any less.

If this playstation 4 was the first playstation product ever then it probably wouldnt have done so well. We cant just forget all the goodwill and consumer trust gained across the generations. So, i dont really find it that funny. The point is Microsoft showed disdain with their first product. They did little to nothing to please the Japanese and with the 360 it was already too late and it was seen as hostility more than dedication.

Yeah theres obviously a nationalist feeling. Its the same in the US and why the Xbox does better there than other reagions.

but the truth of the fact and the point i was doing is that Japan is not an impossible market for american companies. You didnt really refute that.

Oh yeah, I was running some errands and all people are talking about here in America is the PS4 launch in Japan.
