Forums - Gaming - Titanfall Beta Impressions (PC version)

I was impressed.  Overall, the game is very good but not quite great.

First, the game is very fluid.  People forget how great COD Modern Warfare 1 multiplayer was when it first came out.  It was very fast, responsive, and lots of fun.  Of course, the gameplay is somewhat similar when playing as a pilot because Respawn people made COD MW1.  However, once you get into a titan, it's not a fast twitch FPS like COD, definitely a different feel.  Titans are not quite overpowering because Titans don't last long.  Overall, regardless of whether playing as pilot or titan, the game is very balanced.  As for the graphics, I disagree with the haters, and I think the graphics are great.  I have no problems that Respawn used an older engine (Source) because the responsiveness of the gameplay is phenomenal which trumps graphic fidelity.

Like most people's complaints, the big negatives are the 6 vs 6 multiplayer count and the bots.  At first, it didn't bother me about the bots, but after playing for awhile, I really hate the bots.  The bots AI aren't great or horrible, but they don't add much.  You can almost tell quickly which player is a bot vs a human, but I wish the bots either appear as different color or shape, and noted differently on the map.  If this game was 10 vs 10 without the bots, this game would be great (Titanfall 2 on PS4??).

I'm probably still getting this game, but whether I'm going to be playing this game for days into weeks into months like BF3 or the original Modern Warfare remains to be seen......

Just wondering if you got to play it on an Xbox One too, and how they compair.  I have to say, they use the controller really well on the Xbox One, but there is some of that 'screen door' effect which annoys me, but not much.

Other than increasing the party size, any other things you think they should add?  Remember this is a beta.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Sounds good.  I will  try  the beta next weekend or so since this week will  a bit busy for me.

If the game would be 10vs10 it would be super chaotic and too many titans at the same time. that's what the bots are good for, they don't get titans but decrease your time to get one.

i agree that you should see better if they are bots or real players but they make sense and more players would be too much. can't understand how other people don't realize that when they play the game. 8vs8 would be the absolute maximum i can imagine on these maps.

I don't understand the "Titanfall 2 on Ps4" remark in the brackets.

please understand

I thought bots looked like robots? Or are there different varieties?

I would assume they're worried about what that many Titans on the map at once might do to the frame-rate. This has to play on the 360, too. A true next-gen sequel might have more freedom.

they could simply have a lower count on last gen like other games have as well but i think they were worried if the game would be still as much fun with too many real players and not if it could still run.   after playing the beta i can totally understand that respawn really believes 6vs6 is better than 10vs10 or something like that simply because too many titans wouldn't be as much fun even if some believe that.

when i played it it happened from time to time that 3-4 titans were in the same area and it was already not possible anymore to move forward or back especially when there is a titan in the middle with a shield so that you can't even shoot on the other titans behind the titan with the shield.. don't want to know how that would be if there would be even more players. they could increase the space between the buildings but the buildings have to be so close to each other to give the pilots the place to do the wall jumps and stuff like that. also not to imagine how you would get raped if you wouldn't be in a titan but too many others would.

they could also increase the time you get a titan so that there wouldn't be so many titans even with more players but then they could also just call the game different and have no titans at all.

i'm at least pretty happy that there are not more players but like with every game, everyone will see it different and the developer has to think about what would be best for most.

That's an interesting point.  One of the videos I've seen showed how the Titans were very limited in terms of where they could go.  Without destructable environments, it might just be too tight.

Balancing pilots and mecha has to be difficult and probably restricts what they can do in terms of maps.  Still, I bet there will be more options when the future versions don't have to support last gen.

I played on PC and I didn't enjoy the Titan gameplay anywhere near as much as the pilot gameplay. I loved the freedom to run around, but I didn't feel the maps were perfectly designed for it. I guess once I got a hint of it, I actually just wanted to play Mirror's Edge since I'm not a huge FPS guy....

Graphically, it's not all that, but I did have fun

I only played about 3 games, so I definitely give it a few more goes while I can, It's not a day 1 buy for me by any stretch of the imagination, but definitely fun
