Forums - Gaming - Flops You Expected to Be Successful and Vice Versa

What flops did you expect to be a success and successful games you expected to be flops?

Flops: Wonderful 101, Sonic Lost World, Rayman Legends.

Successful games: Wii Party U.

Thought PS all stars would do decent, but i guess that flopped,

Battlefield 4 - crap with awful SP and not working at launch and buggy MP actually did ok in sales.

DMC reboot ...

I expected Gears of War Judgement to do  decent numbers, but it turned out to be a mild flop. I know Judgement is a spin-off, but its sales are still a bit low.

I thought Demon Souls was going to be a flop when it was first revealed. Now look at it.

Remember Me.

i was surprised that Starhawk failed to sell

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Failed that I expected to do OK: PlayStation All Stars, the last Duke Nukem, Atari 2600 PacMan, Spore.

Things I never thought would be so popular - Tetris! I thought nobody should show it to an OCD person, as they would be stuck arranging things. But I was surprised how super popular the game still is. It's a simple organizing shapes games, yes super popular.

And Sims. I get it, I've played it, it's fun. But I am surprised how it's sold over a billion dollars worth.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

I didn't think the Vita or Wii U would flop as amazingly as they did.

I mean, I knew they weren't going to match the PSP or Wii, so purely in that sense they were going to be failures no matter what... but Jesus Christ, are they even trying? I thought Wii U would sell insanely well at first (not Wii levels), then die early due to its hardware being far too weak, for a lifetime total of 60 million. For the Vita, I was expecting a medium burn all the way through a good length lifespan for a total of 50 million. Now that the Wii U blew it right out of the game, I expect the Vita to win lifetime between the two flops with a good deal of breathing room. That said, I expect the Wii U to surpass the Vita temporarily this year, and maintain it into most (possibly even all) of 2015.

I also didn't expect the PS4 to start off anywhere near this fast, nor did I expect the 3DS to begin its decline already, especially with the line-up and new cheap model it had in 2013. Looks like mobile is finally having its way.

I didn't expect Soul Sacrifice, Knack, Dead Rising 3, and Minecraft to sell as well as they did. Didn't expect much from Puppeteer, W101, and Tearaway, but even then I was disappointed. Killzone Mercenary is one that really shocked me with how badly it opened (though sales are decent now).
