Forums - Sales - Do you still think WiiU can outsell Gamecube? (US: Second January, GC: 81k Vs WiiU: 49k)

Will WiiU Beat Gamecube?

Yes 190 47.98%

No 138 34.85%

Maybe / See results 66 16.67%

Total:394

I'm tagging this; will be interesting to see the defense force in action. Though, if I were to hazard a guess, some will clamor to the potential of MK and Smash as saviors.

I don't think there is much doubt at this point that the Wii U will do less than 20 million.

Let's take a look at some of the better selling titles available for the Gamecube after one year on the market:

Super Smash Bros. Melee GC 2001 Fighting Nintendo
Super Mario Sunshine GC 2002 Platform Nintendo
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker GC 2002 Action Nintendo
Luigi's Mansion GC 2001 Action Nintendo
Animal Crossing GC 2001 Simulation Nintendo
Metroid Prime GC 2002 Shooter Nintendo
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle GC 2001 Platform Sega
Mario Party 4 GC 2002 Misc Nintendo

The only series on this list that has had a true successor on the Wii U is Sonic Adventure and maybe Super Mario Sunshine (if you count 3D World as a successor).

Point being there is tons of potential growth from software alone. The Wii U lagging behind should not be unexpected.

To answer the topic: Considering this and how much Mario Kart has grown since the GC era, I'd say yes.

We will see, I still think it will based on the games coming out this year

Will the WII U even outsell the VITA ?

i can see it happening but if it does it wont stay on top lifetime. Japan is the only thing keeping Vita look decent in WW sales, Europe Is doing Ok, but US numbers are a disaster. Of course WiiU aint in no good shape either. Its going to have terrible sales in March-May...... Again

Maybe, but you have to take in count that Gamecube had Smash Bros almost since its launch.

No I don't, that didn't push 3.3m systems.

Uhh yes it did.

the GC would've sold even worse if it wasn't for that one system seller that wasn't screwed around with.

We have no idea if that is true or not, I'm going to side with no though :)

Whatever the case, it's certainly not pushing 3.3m WiiU's.

unlikely, Wii U need a massive price drop, if that doen't do the trick, nothing would.

Even a price cut wouldn't help much i'm afraid. Gamecube went to only $99 in the summer of it's second full year, there is no way they can get the Wii-U to such a price range.

Seriously though I can NOT think of ONE god damned region the WII U is going to do half decent in ...

Sony has taken over the EU and NA. Microsoft will get some scraps from UK/NA. Once PS4 launches in Japan it will demolish any momentum the WII U had there.

you might want to rethink that, your really underestimating SSB :)

Smash wasn't the only game. Luigi, AC, proper Mario, zelda and Metroid games. All of them in the first year. Wii u just had what? Pikmin and Mario 3d world. I think nobody expected wii u to beat GC with that.
