Forums - Nintendo - What to expect from Nintend Direct Feb 13 2014

This is what I'm hoping. First I go by a rumor that Nintendo is bringing back an old game as an exclusive then I read in Bleacher Report that R.B.I. Baseball is coming back and is in partnership with MLBPA . If this isn't mentioned later today this could be mentioned at E3.

I'll expect obviously obvious release dates of games that are about to be completed (e.g. Mario Kart 8, Yoshi, etc) and then unveil some trailer(s) for X, Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros etc, perhaps make one announcement, then devote about 10 minutes for Iwata to "Please Understand"

My honest gut feelings on the surprises we will see tomorrow.

Mario Strikers Wii U - Next Level tweeted about the Direct + The World Cup is this year. Perfect time to bring it out.

Metroid 3DS - No reason other then it's one of the last franchises that hasn't been done on 3DS.

Pokemon Wii U game - Could be the rumored Pokken Fighters, could be something else. My gut tells me Nintendo is going to drop some type of Pokemon game with same badass graphics tomarrow. If you want to get people talking, using the 3rd biggest franchise in gaming would be a good way to do it.

football games dont need a world cup. its the biggest sport in the world with hundreds of millions watching every week.

a world cup is nice, but it doesnt give a hype or so.  CL is more important and thats every year.

worldcup is just increasing the women appeal of football for some weeks...

I'm not really expecting anything big from Nintendo or these directs anymore. And even if there was, it would probably be pushed back later anyway.

U.S.A. my friend.    The last World Cup saw the highest ratings for soccer that the U.S. had ever seen and it was covered heavily by ESPN and other sports outlets.   I have no doubt that everywhere else in the world soccer is big all the time, but here it's like the Olympics where people only watch during World Cup time.   I have no doubt everywhere else in the world Soccer is huge all the time, but since the Wii U is actually doing decent sales in the U.S., they may want to release it when Soccer is the most relevent in America.

What I expect:

Legend of Zelda Wii U reveal
Mario Galaxy U reveal
Final Fantasy 7 remake for Wii U
Grand Theft Auto V for Wii U
A brand new handheld

I don't think Nintendo will disappoint!

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

My predictions:

New games:
1. A new Pokemon title announced; either Pokemon Z for 3DS or a new game in the Orre series of Pokemon games for Wii U.

2. A Metroid title of some sort. Hard to guess which system, could go either way.

3. A Third-Party exclusive from a Japanese publisher - for the fun of trying to pick things, I'm going with a new Square Enix title, possibly a new Crystal Chronicles.

Known games:
4. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - final push, reveal of something surprising.

5. Mario Kart 8 - Reveal of a second special feature added to the game (New vehicle type? Story mode? I don't know what it'll be).

6. Smash Bros - Two character reveals. Start of ND will reveal Diddy Kong, which will be followed by the DKC:TF stuff. End of ND will reveal another third-party character. I could see it being Pacman, Rayman, or, although unlikely, Snake (I only see him returning if the exclusive mentioned above turns out to be a Metal Gear title).

7. New trailers for Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, X, and SMTxFE. One of them will be confirmed for release by June.

8. This is my big "wishful thinking" part... Some reveal regarding Watch_Dogs for Wii U, something truly exclusive that "justifies" the delay.

9. New Wii U update announced, brings some sort of new functionality (like, say, a new News/Weather Channel, or an update to the Browser, or a Wii U equivalent of Nintendo Video on 3DS), and also further improving speeds.

10. A 3DS surprise of some sort, good for all 3DS owners.

I'm hoping for some unexpected announcements, but I sadly doubt they'll happen. Would love Miyamoto's new IP, Pokken Fighters, and Legend of Zelda.

FWIW I think we may (MAY) start to see fewer Nintendo Directs. I think this one will be there to take us to E3 (so showing all the games coming out up until the end of June), then an E3 Direct to take us to the end of 2014.

And then a smaller one every other month to hype the next couple of releases and give Sakurai an opportunity to troll us all.
