Forums - Nintendo - Iwata: "never thought about resigning"

He certainly has at least the right mindset when talking about momentum, which shows that he grasps the theory of it properly. The question is getting the whip cracking at Nintendo's studios, or if need be, pouring out acquisitions. If you're too skittish about buying studios full-out (which is wise, as talent flight can cripple those studios quickly anyway), then find specific projects floating around out there and lock them in as Wii U exclusives. More games like Bayonetta 2, but games that are a bit more mainstream than that

I still think that if they play their cards right, they may achieve profit with Wii U and carry it for more 3 or 4 years.
After that time, i think they could change into a more powerfull console without losing consumer confidence.

Anyway, i am enjoying very much my HD nintendo box =P.
It could be that for having a powerfull PC and a PS3 i don't really miss the thirds, who knows... Still, i am buying more Wii U games than PS3/PC in the last 6 months.

That's the key. Wii U isn't going to be dominant, but it could at least be financially healthy for Nintendo. That ship hasn't sailed, depending on how they work the device.

If Gamecube was profitable then Wii U will be also profitable...

I don't see them making a profit this fiscal year either.

Last year they had Pokemon X/Y (which is far bigger than what Mario Kart 8 will be especially on that small Wii U userbase), Animal Crossing for the West, Luigi's Mansion 2, Fire Emblem, Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Wii Party U, 2DS release + a favorable yen.

If they couldn't even come close to posting a profit with all that, they ain't sniffing one this fiscal year. 3DS sales will likely decline YoY and Wii U is going to need another price cut to $250 at least.

His life as Nintendo´s president is not just about failures. There´s plenty of success in the past.

I'm not saying he should or shouldn't resign but I'm tired of seeing this suggested.

If things worked like this, nothing would ever change in the world of business.  Once you had one successful product, you could sit at the helm of a company through years of losses and whatever else because "Hey, remember that time I had a success with that product?  Yup, so you can't get rid of me because maybe I'll do it again".

Failures can also be humbling, and make sure that you make improvements next time around, so equally it's not always beneficial to pull the carpet from under someone at the first whiff of trouble.

There's a happy medium in between, but success in the past =/= success in the future.

It's kinda scary how much they align, on top of the world in 2007, to dire straights 5 years later.

Nintendo fans keep exclaiming Mario Kart/Smash Bros will save the company, the same way Blackberry fans used to parrot that serious businessmen can't do work without a physical keyboard on their phone.

I have real doubts about this Quality of Life thing that they're probably banking on to save them, especially with Apple seemingly preparing for a huge push into the health/wellness market.

Funny, but NO...

There are definitely parallels. Blackberry had a monster cash reserve just a few years ago too.
