Forums - Microsoft - Who Else Thinks a Xbox One Price Cut is coming in March??

It'd be nice, Microsoft could afford to sell the console at a loss since they'd still be in the black between accessory, game, and Live revenue, but I'm not sure that they will. They'll probably wait until Holiday 2014 for a price cut, once the cost of building the system has gone down enough to drop the price without selling at a loss.

Pretty much my opinion.  I really do not see MS stressed to price cut the console (maybe Europe) but for the US, I think they are happy enough to wait until holiday season before going that route.

Investors don't like it.
Existing XOne owners don't like it.

I think an Xbox 360 price cut is far, far more likely

People that continue to bring the investor part into the mix really show they have no clue about the subject.  These investors have always been there on MS board with no real pull to make any changes within the company because they have less than 1% interest.  These investors are always the ones who are looking to cash and burn for greater dividend on their stocks and care little about long term plans, investment or even position of the company.

There was a push by one large group to get 1% interest in the company and failed, so their words continue to fall on deaf ears.  Hell, there are investors on Sony board that requested them to spin off the PS division, how likely do you think thats going to happen.  People need to stop throwing out the investor part because it has as much weight as a PS fan asking MS to spin off the Xbox division.

Haha again with those board members... First of some people have to check how board meetings work... And what is the CEO role in a company...
second we are talking about a minority among majority holders... Things are put to a vote if it even gets to that... And for that there is more than just wishfull thinking from a few that is needed... Until then the CEO is the master at the helm no matter what.. Worst case scenario he loses his job.. And for that it needs also to go through a vote...

anyway that being said there won't be any price cut prior to full deployment...and even then I'd put my money on a bundle this holiday season and a true price cut in 2015.... The console is doing great, it's selling better than 360 with less markets... Cutting price at that point is retarded... Being first in sales is less relevant than maximizing profit...they have half a decade+++ in front of them...

lol At certain fans wanting a price drop, gee I wonder why. They must have failed Economics 101..

Nope, not a chance.

It cost MS $471 to make the Xbox One. A $100 price drop would put them in a huge hole and would certainly piss off anyone who bought an Xbox One before the price drop. It would be really difficult to justify a price drop this early especially when they no idea what it would do to market share.

Dropping the price would only cause more financial damage to a division that the investors already want sold.

People still seems to forget that MS is one of most profitable companies of the world and they still have around 100 billion in cash. Heck, MS makes more money than Google and around as much as Apple. 1 billion loss might be a lot for Sony but it is nothing for MS.

You have to remember that Xbox brand was never profitable during its first 5 years and MS still didn't abandon it (losses were only around 3 billion). And now MS is even more profitable and with more cash than ever.

First off, MS doesn't make "around as much as Apple". Apple pulls in more than twice the revenue MS does and nearly three times the profit. They also don't have anything like $100 billion in cash. The company as a whole has just over $100 billion in total assests as of the end of 2013.

The Xbox brand is still losing money year after year for Microsoft and it doesn't matter if the company is doing well. Shareholders would flip out if MS announced that just after 3 months of being on the market they decided to cut the legs off of the best chance the brand has to finally start making money by going from a small loss to a large one.

Microsoft can't just keep the Xbox brand because they feel like it with no sign of it becoming a profitable venture.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

THe Xbox division has been profitable since 2008.  I would have to check the rest of your facts, but based on that alone, I won't bother.

It is near the end of the end....

Isn't that a bit too soon? I mean, thats sooner than the wiiU had a price cut right? Lets not get ahead of our selves here since that basically means that MS thinks the X1 is more doomed than the wiiU

People need to stop looking at the US xbox one sales and look to Europe where the PS4 is selling 3x as much. Sony will be very happy with Microsoft's pricing. Sony are building up a far larger/stronger userbase in Europe and the Xbox One is starting to look a failure. The Xbox One price in Europe needs to be sub PS4 pricing to do similar numbers. Not many people interested in kinect or its media features. So its simply about which is the better games console and on that basis the Xbox One has to be a fair bit cheaper.

This weeks figures have the ps4 33% ahead of xbox one in the USA and getting close to 4x that xbox one in Europe. The japanese launch will increase that even more.

The Xbox One current pricing is totally unsustainable and its doing massive damage to the console's chances. If Microsoft don't do something soon the PS4 is going to be so far ahead that it will be perceived as the only console to buy this generation. Yes the Xbox One had a good launch but the post launch figures are not competitive in Europe and they are getting much worse in the USA.

The price cut will come at E3. They need a big stage and media exposition to communicate to their audience.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

March is to soon .this might make ms look like the are scared next fall price drop
