Forums - Nintendo - Does the lack of Wii U gamepad touchscreen abilities mean a lot in Tropical Freeze?

I've seen most previews with people playing with the Wii Remote Nunchuck or Pro Controller. The gamepad is like an after thought. I think its being proven that the gamepad was a terrible idea especially tying it to the total identity of the console. Maybe they should have sold the Gamepad like they did Wii Fit, make it separate or bundle it for those who see value in it. The rest of us who don't wouldn't be off put or repulsed by it.

In any case, I'm looking forward to one day trying this game out. And looking forward to the change in direction Nintendo might be considering.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

It means that even Nintendo's top brass have no idea what to do with the Gamepad. Wasn't Iwata going to "double down" on it? They need to create a game that sells people on the idea of using the controller. Like Wii Sports did with the Wii. You were addicted the second you started playing bowling.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

It means that, aside from off tv play (which is nice, but I think its importance is highly overrated in the West), this controller is just a huge albatross around the system´s neck.

Since they can´t figure out anything interesting, the Pro controller is far superior, imo.More comfortable to hold and a very good battery life, instead of the Gamepad´s shitty one.

I'm guessing they might consider a gamepad less Wii U SKU if they fail to sell decently this year. I would imagine a redesign before Gamepad less SKU though.

It does need it. To play in off tv mode^ I would rather play in off tv mode even when I have the tv to myself.

Off TV play isn't really what I meant with "needing it"

with needing I meant if it added something to the game rather than just switching to a different screen to play
