Forums - Nintendo - Reggie Fils-Aime: Fan desire 'doesn't affect what we do'

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime made abundantly clear in a recent interview that his company's direction is driven by strategy and not the changing desires of its fan base.

In an interview with Siliconera published on Wednesday, Fils-Aime was asked how does "what fans want or say influence [his] decisions." His response, which centered mainly on petitions brought to Nintendo by fans asking them to bring legacy games to newer devices, was telling of Nintendo's view of the market.

"I have to tell you -- it doesn't affect what we do," Fils-Aime said. "We certainly look at it, and we're certainly aware of it, but it doesn't necessarily affect what we do."

Fils-Aime went on to say that while he's "aware of what's happening," he is ultimately "paid to make sure that we're driving the business forward."

"The thing we know [about petitions] is that 100,000 signatures doesn't mean 100,000 sales," he said.

This is old news!

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

We've noticed.

Is that so?
I would have never noticed hadn't you told me.

Wow, he said this months ago...

Everyone was wondering why the Wii was so popular. Nintendo's answer? It was lapsed gamers. People to whom gaming was no longer serving or was now being overserved with expensive hd consoles.
Turns out, the problem started in the first place when Nintendo stopped making games people wanted, who then had to either go hd for something similar, or just stop altogether.

This interview has been talked about to death and it's months old. And he's right, too. 100,000 signatures does not equal 100,000 sales. Doesn't even equal 50,000 sales, either, depending on the game.

And you can't run a business based on what internet forum users say. I am friends with a lot of Nintendo fans, both current and lapsed, and I am the only one out of all of them that goes and talks on gaming forums like this.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

is he going to do an e3 this year?

This kind of pisses me off.... So instead of bringing games the fans actually want, this dumb ass will bring nothing?! How many Japanese games don't make it here because of this douche bag and iwata? 90%... More? Move the business forward, how? By doing nothing?! By holding games back?... I think this a-hole has a lot more power in what comes to America than most believe. Not every Japanese game should come (dating sims come to mind) but there are a lot that should. I love Nintendo, but this moron needs to go.... Bring the fucking games you idiot! By ignoring 100,000 fans on a petition, this stupid jerk is saying he knows what we want more than we do.... Good lord, Nintendo needs new management. I'm convinced.
