Forums - Gaming - Nintendo's Problems are it's Fanboys!

I didnt read the article but Nintendo fanboys can be a problem. I would know, I used to be one XD I used to use a lot of websites that attracted the conspiracy theorist Nintendo fans who believed that anything bad happening to Nintendo was "evil" Sony's doing XD and they'd be excited for a cool 3rd party game and then if it got cancelled they'd say "that game sucks anyway. Doesnt deserve to be on a Nintendo system" and crap like that. Nintendo's fanboys can be annoying, but so can any other companies fanboys

The main problem seems to be that Nintendo fans don't buy enough third party support. That gives the signal to third parties that Nintendo's systems are not a platform where they should make games.

I'll agree with that portion... there's two problems with Nintendo fans in this case.  One: they look for any excuse to not buy 3rd's games (ie. missing splitcreen, a feature they won't even use).  Two: 3rd party fanbases made the same exodus as the 3rd parties themselves.

I'll make a summary of the article for you guys!

He also says that buying a Nintendo console for Nintendo games alone is being a close minded person. He also seems to dislike Pokemon, Mario and Zelda and enjoys third party games on Nintendo's systems. He is kind of an odd ball if you ask me.

In conclusion he thinks that Nintendo's current situation is not by Nintendo itself but because of it's fanboys.

I think I already read something like that once... pretty sure one of our forum's members wrote it, in fact.

Why would anyone buy a gimped version that's more expensive?
It's not Wii era anymore where they can release shovelwares to fund their half HD games.

Well, that's correct. we Nintendo fanboys buys almost exclusively Nintendo software because our selective and good taste.

No "we" don't buy alot 3rd party games beacuse 75% of them either suck, miss key features, severly overpriced or doesn't have the main fanbase fot that kind of game

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Adding touchscreen and off tv play to every game is the opposite of gimped.  Were you actually planning to use splitscreen co-op in splintercell or are you just using it to hurt Nintendo's image?

That doesn't explain the GameCube era, where Nintendo fans bought far fewer third party games than XBox owners even when they did have fairly good ports a lot of the time. Heck Nintendo would even let EA use Mario in things like NBA Street and SSX back in those days as a bonus.

As someone who grew up with the NES (gulp!) and SNES I think what happened is this -- when the N64 came out and became basically a Nintendo/Rare-only box, Nintendo's fanbase splintered into two groups, the first group who enjoyed third party games but still were Nintendo fans grew frustrated with Nintendo and eventually left them for Sony or Microsoft.

The second group became used to buying only Nintendo games on Nintendo platforms. As time went on this group became more and more narrow minded so that even Nintendo couldn't sell a wide variety of genres. For example NBA Courtside sold very well on the N64 from Nintendo in the late 90s, but even Nintendo couldn't sell that game on a Nintendo platform today.

Nintendo fanboys have become Mario/Zelda/DK/Pokemon/Kirby fanatics, and even Nintendo games like Sin & Punishment or Star Fox or F-Zero aren't being made anymore because there isn't an audience left for those games.

Nintendo problem is simply

"They value being different more than they value being better"

The problem with that is that they often fail to reach the standard expectation of all the gaming consoles that would make them viable platforms for parity in 3rd party software support, while they focus entirely on what would be a differentiator for them.

They don't fail because of what they offer. They fail because of what they don't offer (3rd party parity, online/social services parity, and entertainment options parity). They still don't see that as their problem, but it is their only problem and a big one.

I don't think the Nintendo "fanboys" are a problem. They exist and they defend everything Nintendo does or doesn't do and they isolate themselves to just Nintendo gaming, but they are so few in number compared to the overall gamer market, that they are really inconsequential at this point. I mean I don't think they are enough to sustain Nintendo's arrogant stance on "different" more valuable than "better".
