Forums - Nintendo - How will MK8, and Smash save the Wii U?

I keep reading this over and over in all threads; Smash and MK8 will really get things going for the Wii U. So, to those who make that bold prediction; how exactly? I can't figure it out, and I'm 100% serious.

This is not a troll thread; please explain to me how many units you predict Smash and MK8 will move.

The most sensible prediction is Wii U will sell around 20 million units life, maybe less. So do you think, with MK8 and Smash, it will sell a lifetime over 30-40 million? So two games combined will move 10 million each is that right?

Smash would have done it if they didn't reveal the 3ds version so soon.

They won't but they will be both GotG contenders

At best the Wii U will do 30 million but no single game will save it. Nintendo would need to release something new that is ground-breaking for that to happen... otherwise around 20-25 million while hopefully making a profit is as good as they can do

Well that's not what I keep reading in these Nintendo threads. I keep hearing about Smash and MK8 having a deep impact on sales and I'm just trying to figure out how deep of an impact.

If the Wii U is on track for 20 millions; how many more will it theoretically sell with Smash and MK8 as supposed miracle titles?

First of all, LESS than 20 million units sold for Wii U is not a sensible prediction at all, that's a more bold prediction than 30 million.

Second of all, no one thinks MK8 and Smash Bros. are both going to move 20 million Wii U's combined. They think that MK8, Smash Bros., Zelda U, X, Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, DKC, etc. will move 20 million Wii U's combined.

Edit: You're right that they think they'll help the Wii U a lot, but not a single person on any fourm ever legitimately thinks that only two Wii U games will move 20 million units.

Also, I think they will have moved about 2 million Wii U's each after Wii U is off shelves.

Super Smash Bros. Melee was the best selling Gamecube game while Mario Kart Wii was the best selling Wii game excluding bundles.

Until those franchises have their Wii U entries, lifetime predictions are pointless.

Its difficult to predict at this point.

Theres so much baggage behind the Nintendo and Wii U hate that i dont think it is recoverable. Mario Kart will no doubt move alot of units though.

Personally, i think its a good system. It has a great line-up of exclusives. Better than the PS4 and X1 for me, wich basically have nothing coming that interest me this year. FFXV wont make a release this year most probably so thats a shame.
Leaves me with Dragon Age 3, wich will release on current gen aswell. At least the Wii U has X coming out this year, and that by itself is worth a console purchase. Add to that those popular Nintendo games and Bayonetta 2 and the question becomes not wether its worth having, but what does the future hold besides Zelda.

Without the 3rd party support, wich we know Nintendo never has, it will always be a secondary system. A really good one, but nevertheless.

Well thank you for clarifying. It seems that Wii U is the most hated Nintendo console of all time (barring perhaps Virtual Boy), and even the GC which sold poorly was really loved by fans, myself included.

With that negativity, I just don't see any two titles being its savior.

Different ages. The Wii U might end up beeing loved just as much. Its still early to tell.It certainly has alot of titles to please fans this year.

The big difference is that the internet is more widespread and participated than it used to be. The negative impressions, justified or not will pour through and affect the most weak hive minded. This kind of damage wasnt so severe in the Gamecube era.
