Americans are not that open minded at all!!
Japan is so open minded, they're almost at perverted levels lol. Western Europe is much more balanced in my opinion.

If you don't believe me they are more open minded just watch some of their anime lol. Teen males with bleeding noses (enough blood to fill a swimming pool) when they see breasts lol.
I also swear i once saw a used panties vending machine.

In comparison, look at how Xbox 360 is doing in Japan it's almost dead. The Japanese people are very close minded in my opinion. That's the only explanation i can give you. Sony is doing much better in America than Microsoft in Japan. Why do you think this is? You might say oh well the 360 outsold the ps3 in America. One can argue that PS3's lack of online capabilities and its initial high price point did a lot of damage in America. And I happen to agree with that because remember how well the PS2 did in comparison to the original Xbox in America? I don't think Americans decided all of a sudden they would stop supporting Sony because it was a foreign company. But what's the explanation of Xbox doing so poorly in Japan? |
might happen to people that get nukes dropped onto their heads
But seriously, there are several US american companies that are doing well in Japan. Apple for example is by far the market leader for smartphones and tablets there, although Sony, Sharp, Panasonic and so on produce those aswell.

And yet in Europe, the foreign PS4 is winning by a HUGER margin than the US, and the equally foreign XBone is ALSO doing poorly.
Same goes for basically the rest of the world.
Since the technical stats and prices are NOT identical, is it that far a stretch to think that the XBone's performance is simply up to itself?
In Japan, American products like iPhone are vastly popular,
and Apple computers were more popular there than most of the rest of world (outside US) for many years when Apple was doing poorly over all.
There's many closeminded things about Japanese culture, but the same can said for America, EVEN THOUGH America is a heteregenous nation of immigrants.
Since when is consumerist brand preferences a measuring stick for 'open mindedness'?

I'd hope he isn't basing this just off of that. It isn't the best example.
However, in certain aspects, Americans/Europeans certainly are. But these are different cultures which have completely different laws and ways of life. It's a trade off.
Open mindedness is subjective depending on the topic; each population has around the same amount of close minded people as anywhere else, peoples own personal experience or views can cause bias towards one thing over another and create a stereotype from that exposure. Regarding this situation, I dont believe it has to do with either being open or close minded, it has more to do with taste. The Xbox brand has never fared well in Japan and its titles dont satisfy their gaming preferences, so it tends to do poorly. Americans dont have a preferred company, they just go with which product they think is best at the moment, which makes them a wild card market compared to the Japanese and European gaming market which already has set preferences.
