I've always liked platformers and RPGs the most.  I like also like strategy games, action, and action adventure a lot.  I like racing and fighting a little bit.

I didn't like first person shooters in the past, but playing Unreal Tournament on PC and Quake 3 on the Dreamcast, I actually liked those two shooters more than others. This gen because most games are FPS, I've learned to deal playing them more, but still not that much of an FPS outside of Unreal and Quake. Third person shooters have also got a lot better, and the reason I enjoy Uncharted more than most is because of the mix between shooting and the climbing/platforming, which breaks up the monotony of constant shooting from the very beginning of a game all the way to the end.

Platformers are still my favorite with action/adventure and rpgs following. Really fond of fighting games too. I really have a feeling that this is going to be a strong generation for this type of gaming.

i stopped liking the fighting, sports, and racing genres. everything else remains unchanged. Fighting was my favorite for a long time.  but platformers and adventures have since returned to my favorite.

Until the 7th Gen I had never bought a FPS that wasn't on PC (and as I didn't have a decent gaming PC, it was basically didn't buy FPS). I didn't want them and thought the control scheme was stupid. Now I am happy to. But this isn't only because of the popularity of them, or the fact that western developers seems to be stuck in the idea that only 2 genres sell (FPS and TPS).

Lack of other favourite game series or genres have pushed me in that direct as well. That being JRPGs, well made that appeal to me. I really liked Star Ocean 3 but 4 was really poor. We all know what has happened to Final Fantasy. Valkyrie Profile now doesn't even exist. Ivalice department of SquEnix are non-existant. My gaming habbits had to change to adapt to the changing market I feel.

I still buy my usual favourite series though.

Not really. I've loved RPG's for as long as i can remeber and they're still the best games for me. I can't get into FPS, Driving and or Platformers for the life of me.

VERY few exceptions exist though, but it's mostly RPG's, Strategey and Adventure games for me.

Started out with RPGs, switched to shooters & adventure games, and straight back into RPGs. Overall though i love everything except for grid based strategy

Jprgs, strategy, adventure and simulation games always were my preferred ones, but I do enjoy racing, fighting, sports, puzzle games once in a while. The only genre I´m not interested today is FPS and soccer games

I'm from the 3rd gen. There wasn't a particular genre. Every kid in my neighborhood would jump from Super Mario to Contra to Double Dribble to Shadowgate and Tecmo Bowl. We didn't care. We just figured out the rules, jumped in and had fun. I always played everything.

Now there was a time when I fell pretty hard for motion controls, open world games, music games, etc but those usually lost my interest after time. I would usually go back to the tried and true. I used to buy a lot of FPS games despite disliking the genre. I think I had more FPS titles on PS1 than anything else at one point and it kinda disgusted me. I didn't like them very much but I kept buying games like Medal of Honor and Quake II.

I guess fighting games (well, Street Fighter, at least) and third person action/adventure will always have my heart. I haven't changed much.

I used to love  MMOs when I was younger, but now they bore me to death. I just don't see the appeal anymore.
