So it's more like WiiU vs Everyone Else?

PC vs Console? Gaming vs The World?

Full-scale single release HD game development

vs

all other interactive entertainment (indie games, mobile games, continuous-development PC games like EVE, LoL, and TF2)

The Xbox One is selling less than the PlayStation 4, and now all of the sudden its all about the games. Deal with it. It's always been all about the games even when an Xbox console was outselling a PlayStation one. And even then console unit sales were being discussed, and there is no difference about that now. For some, the 800 pound gorilla is the success of the PS4 over the Xbox One thus far and would do most anything to avoid facing it.

This is exactly the kind of post I wrote this thread in response to.

He's primarily a Nintendo fan...

Did you pull a tl;dr?

No no no. Do you forget that the Wii U isn't getting any ports? If the difference between XBONE and PS4 becomes large enough, lots of games will be PS4 exclusive by default.

This gen is PS4 vs Xbox One and debating about Nintendo's 9th gen console.

What?

Even the original Xbox got decent 3rd party support during the PS2 era, also, what of the Wii last gen?

Nintendo fan, yes. So we have something in common.

It's already clear that the difference won't be anywhere near that large in the US, AND current PS4 sales alone cannot sustain all the games in development. Third parties will be compelled to bring everything to Xbox One anyway.

Meh. It is all about winning. Because that makes it harder for the competitor to secure exclusive deals. And it's not only the sales that determine the winner but the hardware as well. Let's say if there was one system that was more powerful and less hard to develop for that will draw exclusives as well. So yes, winning is always good.
Old franchises are losing sales because they got stale. That's what new IPs are for. Things like Titanfall, The Order and Destiny are driving excitement and creating new big franchises that will easily rival the past gen in sales.

This gen won't go anywhere soon and as long as publishers can mike hundreds of millions on a single game they will strive for AAA.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
