Forums - Sony - Has Vita turned the Corner?

Just looking at the last few weeks of sales, the Playstation Vita has been coming in as the fifth bestselling console each week ahead of both Nintendo Wii U and even Microsoft's venerable Xbox 360, do you take this as evidence that Vita has turned the corner?

In Japan, maybe. Eking out a win over a dying console and a stillborn one is nothing to crow about, though.

Taking in account they are ignoring USA completely and letting it die slowly and, worst than that, are getting decent EU numbers without even trying and apparently that doesn't convinced SCEE to try a little harder, it looks that won't change that much. They needed to launch the Slim model worldwide (I still believe the UK launch is just a test to see how it will perform) and cut the price of the cards (and that's is possible, since the Slim model is cheaper to manufacture and gives a better profit ratio per unit).

It's still an expensive as hell handheld. The unit isn't that expensive anymore, but the card prices are outrageous and the games are huge.

they could be selling so many more units tho...

In Japan it hit a good new years bump in addition to Final Fantasy and a few other games. I hope it keeps this up but only time will tell.
In Europe it is neck and neck with the Wii U and Europe being largely sony territory and UK pretty much hating Nintendo, that isn't really something to brag about.
In NA, well things aren't looking so good for the little guy and I don't see much coming with Western appeal to change that.

All in all, the Vita will likely continue to live as a very Niche, Japanese focused console, unless Sony does something crazy.

Japan are trying. Europe are starting to. But US? Sony poopz on us, Vita owners. :3

all depends when the slim vita numbers hit and the old stock sale has sold out.. 129 euros is tempting for a lot of people till the slim hits with a higher price

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

BestBuy offered a PS Vita for $99 already.
The Vita is an accessory for the PS4, but dead as a platform.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I don´t think the Vita´s situation in the EU is all that comfortable. Yeah, it´s sellling better now, but not as much as Sony needs. Right now, it seems that there´s only one game helping (in the West): Fifa. Fifa is giving Vita some room to breathe but it can´t survive in Europe with just one game. North Americans are not big fans of soccer, then its even poor sales.

In Japan, it seems that Vita is just ok. It´s getting games and it´s selling rather well. We can compare all we want with home consoles, because portable consoles ALWAYS sell a lot better there. Too bad most games are unappealing to western audiences, with the exception of Final Fantasy, maybe. I just wonder if Vita sucess in Japan only is enough for Sony getting some return of their investiment
