The N64 was certainly much power powerful than the PS1, but a few funky glitches like the above, and the fact that the ROM is *much* more expensive to manufacture than a CD and holds less information was a problem.
But the flip side is cartridges are hard to copy, where I know many school kids that would copy PS1 games. One kid would rent it, copy it, and sell it everywhere.
