It could work but with them saying a price cut is off the table ... $300 just for the system then having to pay for a bunch of toys ... I dunno. Seems awfully expensive for kids. Part of the appeal of Skylanders and Disney Infinite is it works with hardware people already own to you just need to pay a little bit for the starter kit.

That's not correct. A company cannot own itself. A stock buyback is effectively increasing the % of the company owned by all other shareholders and hence their share's inherent value. It has nothing to do with more people wanting to buy the stock.
