Forums - Gaming - The Elder Scrolls Online won't require Plus on PS4, but will require Gold on X1

No cross-play? That's ridiculous for an MMO.

Smart move by Sony to drop PS+ requirements. Players are already going to be paying a monthly charge to access the servers.

They haven't 'dropped the PS+ requirement'. You make it sound as if it's a reaction to MS. This was always on the cards.

I mean in general. Forgot to include that.

What a damn surprise. M$ is gonna have to fix this practice if they want to compete. Can anyone explain how they justify putting this behind Gold?

Its because they want Xbox live to be closed and under complete control of Microsoft. The same practice was in order for FFXI online and Phantasy star Universe. Microsoft doesnt allow shared servers. They want to have dedicated servers under their control.

With that said, i agree with you. Its a dumb practice. Thier problem... people that want to play the game can get it on the PC or PS4. Not that i recommend it but alas.

Different servers. So not only are Xbox gamers forced to have Gold, but they're getting what is, essentially, an inferior product with a smaller community? I can't see how anyone -- even M$, benefits from having dedicated console specific servers in an MMO.

Um wouldn't a PS4 gamer allready be paying for online MP for other games?

Cause this would matter to casuals who are either too young to be allowed to game online or are old enough yet have no interest to game online.....yet would somehow pick PS4 to play just this over PC. Therefore this news is actually non-news to gamers like us.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Well I refuse to pay 60 and then 15 for a monthly fee either way. Also chances are you have PS plus or Xbox Live Gold either way.

Now that you mention it, i dont think they have confirmed it. But, its what happened with PSU. Of that im sure, because when all other servers closed the Xbox live one was still up.

MS is sometimes blinded by its lust for power and total control on its users and partners. I'm sure it's not greedier than almost any other company, the difference is in this power and control thing. Sony, so, this time has been more clever, it saw the problem of forcing double fees, and BTW it plays safe, as it knows many online gamers will pay PSN fee anyway to play other games, but they'll feel better because they won't feel forced to pay for it should they decide to only play online MMOs and free games. In the end Sony will miss just a small percent of potential fees, but it will receive in exchange a good image return, so they can consider this a good and cheap marketing move, just a few millions $/year (on a hundreds million $ yearly online revenue, and in future even billions, and compared to a total marketing budget that's overwhelmingly bigger than this cheap move too) to be considered the good guy.
