No, I think WoW lost its charm many years ago and it just doesn't feel fresh anymore... I think FFXIV RRB or Guildwars 2 is a much better choice than WoW but WoW does have a free to play till level 20 I believe (correct me if I am wrong)

It was nice knowing you padib...

As someone who's played 6+ years of it.....
It's hard to say how to get new comers into it.
Now-a-days I see most newcomers either love it to pieces or hate it to oblivion.

Would you suggest a better one that's free? |

I returned to WoW this time last year and take my word for it; there is NO better time to start playing WoW than right now. You'll have a great time ^^

World of Warcraft is still pretty much the same game it always has been, there are those who cry and moan about how TBC was the best expansion and it is never going to be as good as 200X ever again. I can safely tell you as someone who has played it from the Beta to this very day that those people for the most part never played the game to any level during those times.
You will also hear a number of people now claiming that WoW has become too easy and casual. While it is true that Warcraft now features baby versions of some of the instances in game it also still features normal and Heroic modes to those raids, and again I would assure you that anyone who claims the game to be easy has zero experience of Heroic or even Normal modes of raiding in a lot of the cases.
As for it being too late tho... it completely depends on what you want to do, if you loved the Lore of the warcraft universe then playing WoW will show you what became of a lot of these characters, some of whom are now faction heads or have massive shrines to their lives works in the RTS games. The world itself is gigantic and there is so much to do in it you could literally get lost for years... and I mean years.
If you are going to play it tho do not just jump right into the game on a random server with a random class, you should do a little research on the population of the server you try and if there is anything odd or weird about it, a fast check on the Warcraft forums found on the main blizzard website will show you if there is any issues. Issues you would want to be careful of are lack of server population issues or Horde to alliance Ratio issues, or the opposite ends issue which is big server queues at the peak times of play ( my server currently has a 40 min queue around 6pm thanks to a youtuber and his army of fanboys on it)
When it comes to class all I can say is make a druid, they are the only one of the 11 classes in game which can do all 4 roles in a group situation and are a massive bag of fun when it comes to doing stuff on your own. If you have no experience of MMO life you should know that class's break off into different spec trees such has tank/healer/dps and a lot of class's in wow can do 2/3 of these roles but the Druid is the only one who has 4 talent tree Tank/Healer/Meleedps/Rangedps so if you wanted to experience all possibilities of end game play the druid would be best to start with.
As for people suggesting that WoW is bad because it costs money to play, it costing money to play is actually a plus in many areas if you are willing to pay 50euros per 6 months of play, the cost is easily outweighed in terms of content as there is no other game which for 50euros will literally offer you non stop play experience any time you get to sit down and login to it and also it is a deterrent from people who would jump into a free to play game as a baby sitting tool who have no cash invested in their account so could freely troll and be annoying in the game world (while it's true that you can play for free up til lvl 20, those characters created on those accounts cannot talk in general chat, whisper people or even Yell to those in the surrounding area, they are muted until they put some cash forwards)
If you want any other info about more in depth aspects of WoW feel free to ask me, been running a guild for years now and done all there is to be done in terms of PvE in the game.
