Wasted resources used on a different input style that also requires a game engine porting. Pure BS.

The Nikkei just click baited the shit out of everyone and it worked.

As for the impending Nintendo Direct...well, of course. They do press events after every 3rd quarter financial report and of recent years that's included an ND.

Making game demos is completely BS, however something like a small mini game based on Mario's Cat suit for smartphones is not really something out of the question. I'm not completely in favor of that but I'm not against either (as long as they keep their consoles support)

I think the "problem" Nintendo is going to run into is when "Mario Cat Suit Frenzy" on iPhone gets downloaded 100 million times next to Mario 3D World selling maybe 6 million copies.

That's kinda where I see this headed and I think Nintendo will eventually start to dabble more and more with smartphone mini-game gimmicks.

Come on, Nintendo doesn't even realease demos of their games in their own consoles, why would they do so on mobiles.
And if it's mobile content, it is money and content development spent on another device that should have been invested in their platform.

If it took 5 people to make Wind Waker HD, I'm pretty sure it will only take 1 guy to make a small smartphone game and probably like 10 bucks.

I don't even see that making much sense.  That takes away development resources unl;ess they outsource it to someone else (or acquire a mobile developer for them).

Any time spent on a device other than Nintendo's own reduces the need for Nintendo's own hardware in the eyes of consumers.  Mini-games would hurt them rather than boost them.

Well, Zelda games typically have huge budgets (biggest budget so far for a Nintendo game is Skyward Sword's, Zelda U is looking to break that by a fair amount) and they sell on average 5m, and 2D Mario games sell 10m+ with a MUCH smaller budget yet they still make Zelda games.

Again, we are getting ahead of ourselves. But in case this becomes a reality I don't see why Nintendo can't keep both the 100 million selling smartphone games and the 6 million console games. They can both perfectly coexist with each other, in fact, it will allow Nintendo to take bigger risks on software because if that game ends up being a flop, they can recover the money with the smartphone games.

Nope, it's not nice. It creates expectations, and they don't want mobile rip-offs, they want the real deal.

One guy that could have been making a funny eShop game, instead of yet another endless runner.
