As for the impending Nintendo Direct...well, of course. They do press events after every 3rd quarter financial report and of recent years that's included an ND.

Making game demos is completely BS, however something like a small mini game based on Mario's Cat suit for smartphones is not really something out of the question. I'm not completely in favor of that but I'm not against either (as long as they keep their consoles support)

I don't even see that making much sense.  That takes away development resources unl;ess they outsource it to someone else (or acquire a mobile developer for them).

Any time spent on a device other than Nintendo's own reduces the need for Nintendo's own hardware in the eyes of consumers.  Mini-games would hurt them rather than boost them.
