Forums - Gaming - Former Sony Dev: Wii Was 100M Fad & May Not Be Repeated, Nintendo Have Done S**t Job Promoting Wii U

What this guy says is pretty accurate. Couldve been nicer about it though...
Wait are there really people here saying the Wii wasnt a fad? lol

"Fad" seems to be the new excuse when you can't accept something sold better than your product of choice. I wonder about what he thinks of the PS2.

Why doesn't he say even worse things about PSVita? PSVita wasn't even a ''fad'' to begin with. I prefer my product selling 100m+ and being a hype than selling nothing and not being a hype. He musn't be biased against Sony at all : D

I'm completely at a loss to understand why people seem to be mad about what he said. Is it because he once worked for a studio that belonged to Sony? I've seen Nintendo fans say pretty much the same thing and no one blinks an eye.

And what does the Vita have to do with this?

He's pretty much right about everything. The only thing I would amend is that the Wii was only partially a fad. Yes, it had a great deal of people buy it who only played it a few times before shoving it under the TV, which is what being a fad means, but it also had a good number of fans who continued to play it thought its life-cycle.

Saying shit to get a reaction.

Dont give him the reaction.

Wii was a fad yet it sold more games than Vita by a land side this year.
Wii is still selling strong in SW deparment and still sells HW. it beat N64 and GC on the HW leg deparment.
HOW IN THE HELL IS THAT A FAD?!?!?!?
are motion controls a fad? thats another story....

i agree about WiiU though

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

I agree with the retail part of his comments. But not the fad part. Casual gamers or anyone else isn't going to buy a new product every time a new one launches. Wii-Fit is more of an app. The casual crowd is the hardest group to market to.

They are but if you simplify things, they aren't. Most games today aren't simplified. The Wii made it simple so everyone could enjoy it and thats why it sold like gangbusters. The problem with the Wii is that it went so casual that it alienated the core gamers who might have been interested in the Wii.

Yet another Nintendo bashing article. The more people do it, the more I am convinced that they are the kings of the industry. That goes for threads and videos across the Internet.

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

Really?

He's saying that while the 3DS is well on it's way to break 100 million? Something the DS and GameBoy did before it? Something a Sony handheld hasn't achieved and isn't likely to achieve in the near future?

Is he forgetting how the PS3 has only managed to sell half of the PS2's numbers?

And saying that nobody is interested in a Nintendo system? Only because it doesn't have new and interesting games at the moment. There's only so many people who want any system for the system itself.
