How many of those sales were at discount prices? Steam had it for as low as $7.50 recently.

Probaby just a few million.

The game sold 10 million units a few months after launch. And according to VGChartz it has sold over 16 million physical units.

Not sure about consoles, but on PC, if you had your Audio sample quality set to-high, the game would crash.
That was a frustrating experience on launch day for me. :P

With that in mind... Mods really did change the replayability of Skyrim, Morrowind is still my favorite out of the entire franchise though, it had allot more "wonder" to it as you wen't exploring.
Thankfully a bunch of modders have banded together to recreate Morrowind in Skyrim also known as "Skywind" this is why Skyrim deserves the praise on PC, the modding support makes all the difference.

Insignificant amount. The game had 300k concurrent users at launch on steam and retail sales for first week were 600k.

For comparision Halo 3 sold 3.6mil at launch to get its 400k conccurent users at launch.

So even being very generous and assuming skyrim players were twice more likely to play all day than halo players the digital version sold around 1million copies it's first week. Plus it was number one on the steam charts for like a year after it came out. It actually dipped quite low more recently whch is why steam finally gave it a major sale price.

PS3 version.

Well I bought the game when it first came out for both ps3 and 360, then I bought it again for ps3 and 360 as legendary editions, then I bought the pc legendary version at retail for £16. Yes I'm quite keen on the game.

On the PC I'm playing it with loads of mods installed that massively enhance the game even further. Some pervy costumes for female companions, a shout that disrobes female characters (works for men too I guess) plus lots of enhancements that increase speed, and add locations like hobbiton. I got a bit fed up with the look of mudcrabs so now they have top hats and monocles. That's the only ediiton out of character with the game I guess. Other mods enhance the visuals or make the world seem more real like a lot more characters walking about. One mod I really like is the left ring which allows 2 rings to be worn.

It's just a truly amazing game on pc that gets better and better. Best game this generation. For pc owners this game will evolve too. In 5 years time we may still be playing it with enhanced visuals.

Games just don't keep their value for very long any more.

Does it matter? I think its obvious that Skyrim is by far the biggest RPG success story of the 7th gen.

The game took the TES series from good seller, to a monster IP.

Releasing that game in as poor condition as it was is definitely not a success story. Sure for financials, but I will never forget, and Bethesda will never recieve a $60 purchase from me again.

I glad someone said it. The game was a complete and utter mess, and Bethesda knew about. It didn't even deserve a nomination for game of the month, let alone win it for the year.

Huge sales... deserved.

Most overrated rpg franchise on the market, sorry it's how I feel, Nice open world, lore, the rest is subpar. The witcher 3 will be vastly better and sell 1/5th of it sadly.

And to date, I haven't even touched the case the game packaged in. No desire to play it despite the rave reviews. I'm quirky like that.
