OP: No way, not even close. I'll be shocked if all three 8th gen consoles manage 200 million combined. Shorter cycle due to technology and features being driven by revisionist products in consumer electronics in general + segmented market contraction due to massive branching and division of the gaming market and gaming demographics = underwhelming 8th gen sales in total.
Current market movements won't allow any home or handheld console to reach 30 million sales for one year, even 20 million is a stretch at this point, seeing the 3DS struggle with the 14 million barrier with practically no direct competition and in a market segment that can allow for some staggering numbers makes it a huge leap of logic to assume that any home console can more than double that with actual competition and serving an overall more narrow market segment, on an average single platform basis at any rate.
The PS4 doesn't have a gimmick to achieve sales, it will rely on a slow and steady trudge by appealing to very traditional console customers but won't have much casual appeal to draw in the horde that is the transitional audience, the entertainment nomads who chase the fickle perceived value and make more impulsive purchases in droves. The other two have gimmicks that will ultimately do more harm than good since they present somewhat conflicting ideas in one single environment and attempt to force market convergence by way of a somewhat bipolar conceptual image.
People are going way overboard with their expectations for this gen, I don't think any fanbase will be greatly impressed by their company's accomplishments when all is said and done. 200 million sales for a single home console in the 8th gen is an utterly ridiculous notion at best.
