Forums - Gaming - Lightning Returns Demo is up!!!

Wait, you haven't played 8-12?

I'm all for fresh ideas. That's why I love the series so much. With every title they reinvent something. They were able to do this without deprecating the party system for 15 games in a row. Now it's the biggest step they have ever taken. It's not that it's bad but that it's the complete opposite of my preferences that were nurtured in all previous games.
I like parties, I like different characters, I like that each of them excels in a different area, I like turn based strategy. All of this is pretty much gone with the new combat system. It's a single(boring) allrounder character in a battle system that relies too much on skill and less on strategy. That is what boring western developers do and japanese developers shouldn't.

Also I'm not sold on this "open world" stuff. The term gets tossed around too much and I have yet to see a real open world JRPG(Xenoblade Chronicles was the closest one so far). I may not have seen much of LR but what I've seen is as much open world as the previous games which were no open world at all.

After learning that FFXIII's director (Motomu Toriyama) did FFX-X2 and it is being remade with slightly updated graphics and some new elements I will most likely buy that title after I finish the FFXIII trilogy. FFVIII looks to much like VII (which bored me immensly) and I doubt it is worth trying for myself. FFIX has such a great soundtrack I might pick it up on PSN just for that aspect of that game, but the gameplay looks like everything that has been done FF1-8 so that's extremely predictable and boring as an older fan now imho.

I think FFXV will be very well liked because it is done by the creator to Kingdom Hearts and has various members from 7,10,12,13, and the Parasite Eve 2 battle director, Takeshi Nozue for CG and Animation. I think mixing up the older creators like this does something special to the FF series that the past ones couldn't because they needed to burn themselves out so to speak, and get us gamers traped under their gameplay mechanics skills. Now they can use what is liked and mix in other creative ideas they haven't in the past or expand on those ideas further. It also has the sound done by the person that did Guiles theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhrWiG-WO_k her name is Yoko Shimomura also did Final Fight soundtrack I hope she is inspired when she completes FFXVs soundtrack. :)

This Lightning Returns is a game that cements that philosophy of trying new things and moving forward. I can tell they even try to listen to some major complaints. If I was you guys I wouldn't miss the series of FFXIII and LR or the game FFXV. Because I think it not only pleases most old fans and has a larger ability to draw in new fans, and I always wanted to see this series grow but remain exciting. People complained about the corridor feeling in FFXIII in XIII-2 and LR you have towns and more world to explore than FFXIII. In LR you win gil from battles which again people complained of in FFXIII. Some people didn't like the BS (which I disagree with but don't mind it changed up for a new game) and in LR it's completely different but has oldschool roots with the Schema's/Garbs and FFXIII lore and characters so I think they're balancing this game extremely well. I'll leave it at that for now.

The demo was actually good, the battle system was nice. I'll buy it because I'm a sucker for JRPG's I just hope it doesn't let me down the same way 13 did, though 13-2 was a big step up.

The epic conclusion to the story of the FFXIII trilogy. There's a wide cast of characters cheif among them is Claire Farron/Lightning. She returns as the protagonist and sole permanently playable character in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. FFXIII-2 depicted the story of Serah Farron's journey across time and space to prevent the end of the world while searching for her missing sister, Lightning. FFXIII is the 13th instalment in the FF main series. So they're 3 different games, that share the same project. Also the best JRPG series on the PS3 platform imho. Ni No Kuni is great fun as well.

I already played the demo called "japanese import"

The whole thing?

I wouldn't do that because I won't get the full experience. I would have no idea what the characters were saying the whole time. P: Unless the Japanese version has English subtitles which I highly doubt?

Feb 11, 2014 is not far away anyhow.

The Asian version dose.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

It runs in 1080p on the PS3 so everybody knows. I checked it on my HDTV. :)

You sure it's not upscaled?

Are you sure, your sure?

Yep, played it 3 times in a row, then played it again the next day. Really enjoyed it! We should start a friendly competition in here to see who can get the highest score! I'll start with mine:

I apologize for the low quality screen. I forgot to link my twitter. I have another screenshot of a score just under this one on my twitter, though. This was my third try. I haven't tried too hard beyond this, so I'm there's definitely room for improvement, but I doubt I'll get it under 20 seconds like some people I've seen on twitter. That's just insane.
