Sony still has something to do with what games appear on their console. Just because there's aren't many (any?) 1st party games coming out (that we know of) doesn't mean "Sony has already killed it as far as they are concerned in terms of software". Third parties still have to go through Sony in order to put games on PS3. As long as they are ok-ing games to be put on PS3, they aren't "killing the PS3" |
I'm pretty sure they said they have no more first party PS3 games to announce under development. I consider that them abandoning the console.
Just like the PS2 though, 3rd parties can keep releasing games on it. Sony receives royalties from it afterall. Why would they say no to easy money?
It seems like not many people clicked on the links in the the op.

I know they are trying to ease the profit loss by allowing the PS3 to tread on but in the end the PS3 is restricting sales. A solution to this would be allow the PS3 to go on for a tad longer, end of this fiscal year. After that cancel all production of the machine. Add Backward Compatability to the PS4, standard. Bite the bullet till the cost to produce the machine comes down again. I just really think that the PS3 MUST DIE!!! Who is with me? |
I don't see how it is. I want you to give me someone whose caught up between buying a ps3 and a ps4. Also, the ps3 is more profitable at this point, sooo...
Right now I've got my eye on the PS3, and one of these days I'll finally pick one up on the cheap. But if they stopped selling them and added backwards compatibility to the PS4 I would probably just splurge the extra couple hundred bucks and pick up a PS4. But seeing as they're most likely not going to add BC to the system, dropping the PS3 would be a terrible idea.

When third party support is that great on PS3 it's okay for SCE to give PS4 some love...
SCE publishes eg. Helldivers and LittleBigPlanet HUB this year and why ignore the many big releases in 2013?
Beyond, GT6, GoW Ascension, The Last of Us, Puppeteer, etc.
So... you're proposing to make the PS4 more expensive by adding the CBE and Nvidia RSX to the PS4 logic board and either lose money on each new re-engineered unit or price it out of consumers' budgets so that they can eliminate cheaper PS3 SKUs now that the platform is profitable after years of losing revenue?
Not sure if you're trolling or just really stupid.
[edit] Just checked your link. Well played. lol!

But it's right behind the XBone and way above the 360 in sales (this week). 360 is still being supported. And to come close to a next gen console...how is it "dying a fast death"? What do you consider "massive" sales? Because in the middle of the gen when 360 and PS3 were catching their strides, anywhere from 100-120K was a typical sales week. 90K isn't that far behind, so I don't see how it's "dying". Especially coming off a great holiday season |
It's quite alright not to take his predictions seriously. His 2013 prediction for PS3 sales halving that of year before was way off, wishful thinking basically because he doesn't like sony.

I'm not ignoring anything. I'm just saying that SCE personally have said that they dont have anymore new projects in development for the PS3. That they were focused on the PS4, wich is natural.
I am perfectly happy with the PS3, wich i got last year and its been my main system since. And, it will continue to be during this year. Though the Vita and the Wii U constantly vie for my atention.
