I think Windows Phones will only gain market share.
But I also believe windows 9 needs to be something special. How about something that is actually consumer friendly..
Earnings tomorrow. Will be interesting if big YoY decline for Windows.

The original Xbox and 360 OVERALL both lost MS money. So they were not profitable.

Thats awesome. Thats overall and is entirelty down to the first Xbox. And no Xbox Live. Obviously at the current profit rate since 2008 Xbox will be profitable by 2015? Xbox has not made a loss year since 2007. So currently Xbox is strong. And beating PS profit every year.
But all this means nothing. As the OP ws asking is Microsoft still a cashcow? Well my answer shows yes.
Xbox is CURRENTLY in profit, so that means Microsoft is a bigger cashcow now than before 2007 thanks to Xbox.
You allways need to look ahead where its smooth sailing or your in a rough patch!

Some analyst believe that to compete Windows will eventually be given to the manufacturers for free. As it stands they are now supplying Lenovo with the software for a ridiculous low price with others to follow. This will obviously eat into their revenue.
Google on the other hand is not standing still with Chromebooks going from nothing in 2012 to 21% of all laptops sold in the US in 2013. I don't believe the essence of the chromebook will allow it to follow the path of the netbook. MS is worried enough about this to start a silly, childish campaign against it.
But for the here and now Windows will do fine.
