No, dude.  Just ... no.  Stop spreading factually incorrect statements like that to prove a biased point.  It's a bad look.

With win 9 on the horizon, I am skipping 8. I hated it and will never go back. Its another millennium or vista, both had to suck until the next when they got it right.

I now some like 8, that doesnt change how much I hate win 8.

Heh, glad somebody addressed that.

ChromeOS's actual success is hard to guess, but going by the growth of Linux in netmarketshare's numbers this past year, I'm guessing between 0.5 and 0.7 percent of desktop users are running it. In aviation terms, ChromeOS' wheels just left the ground. It's hardly soaring.

As for Windows, its monopoly on the OS market is broken, and that was its main defense, but it's still a fortress. It hasn't really competed for twenty years, and now it has to, but that doesn't mean that it can't compete. It does mean that mistakes like Vista and Windows 8 will cost it, though.

And Kowen is quite correct that Microsoft still enjoys a very powerful position in enterprise even as the mobile revolution undermines its consumer position.

if so you musy expect a small profit or perhaps a loss then tomorrow?  What do you envisage the profit to be tomorrow?

No I expect a profit obviously.

MS is Windows + Office + enterprise software. Everything else (online, search, phones, Xbox) is money losing fluff. Windows will be down, Office and enterprise stuff will be up if anything (businesses have no alternative, unlike consumers) and everything else will lose lots of money.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I dislike any and all monopolies. Windows and Office have remained absurdly expensive for how little they have changed in 7 years, and in particular businesses and governments are forced to pay over and over for the same product, and even upgrade their computers just because Microsoft says so (yes, this actually happened).

MS have also been at the forefront of what I dislike about modern gaming. Achievements, ads, storefronts, DRM, microtransactions, paid online, social media, DLC, and loss leadership.

Breaking the "everyone has Windows and Office" mentality solves both problems. The software will have to compete, the pricing will have to come down, and gaming stops getting to spend without regard to the consequences and drag the industry down with it.

You're still having to pay over and over for the same product.

Watch out for another year of massive increases in the number of companies switching across to this subscription model.  Now THAT will be a cash cow.

I have no doubt Office revenue will continue to rise. I would like to see competition is all.
