Actually, quite a few of us were pleased, since prior DKC games are quite beloved. You're generalizing.

And for the love of Pete, trim your bloody quote trees, both of you, its an eyesore.

I guess Reggie Aims is the man to hype up the "next big game".

But didn't everyone yawn when he announced Donkey Kong? I certainly remember A LOT of people VERY disappointed with Reggie and Nintendo.

Now all of a sudden DK is the next big thing? Ok.

I didn't; I was ecstatic. A sequel to one of my favourite games of the 7th gen, and one of the finest platformers I have ever played? Yes freaking please!

"One of the finest platformers I have ever played"... Rayman, Sonic, Mario, LIMBO, Rick Dangerous and too many other platformers to name say HI!

Are u trying to tell him his opinion is wrong and that Donkey Kong isnt a great platformer?

It's a "very good" platformer. Same league as Mario and Sonic (and all them legendary platformers)? Nope. Hence why NO ONE will buy DK. But, it'll be fun seeing how DK performs. You can always find the "optimistic" fan boy to blow a game's trumpet and make it seem like it's "God's chosen one".

Ur making no sense. He said it was one of his favorite platformers. He never said anything about the game selling well or being critically acclaimed. Literally all he said was he liked Returns and is excited for the sequel.

Donkey Kong is actually well ahead of Sonic in terms of sales and reception. Sonic has been hit or miss since the genesis days and typically sells 1-3m while every mainline console DK has sold over 5m eith the expection on DKC3 and all have been critically praised. Even remakes and spinoffs have sold over 1m on numerous occasions.

I dont get how ur coming up with this NO ONE will buy it thing.

Read his comment again. He said, "One of the FINEST platformers I've ever played". Favouritism is something all fans use as a fall back measure when they're on the defensive. It's all good.

"I dont get how ur coming up with this NO ONE will buy it thing."

Come back to me after DK gets released.

You'll "get" how I'm coming up with "NO ONE will buy it thing".

Bed time here. Gots to get me ZZZZZZzzzzzs.

PEACE OUT!

U said didnt everyone yawn when Donkey Kong was shown

He said he was excited because he loved the previous one

How is that being on the defensive?

And I honestly want to know ur opinion on why u think no one will buy this game, not just "it will and I said so". I actually would like to hear u give a legit reason why this game will sell poorly.

I'll pass. I'm over DK. I was over it the moment Reggie announced it. Lol. : P

Ok cool ur basing it off of nothing just like I imagined. Obviously ur not over DK enough to come into a thread and bash it for no apparent reason. Ur exactly the type of person this forum needs.

I'm not bashing it for the sake of it. I just think it's not the game that will "revive" the Wii U. This is the topic of the thread. Nevermind.

Im guessing u didnt actually read the op because it has nothing to do with reviving Wii U. Its says Retro aims to get Wii U off to a stellar start in 2014 then goes on to give a basic review of the game. Nowhere does it mention sales, just saying Wii U is getting a new installment in a highly acclaimed series.

And yes u were bashing it for the sake of it. "Didnt everbody yawn when Donkey Kong was announced?" Then Curl went on to say he was excited since he loves the franchise. Then u went on to try telling him his opinion is wrong and games like Mario, Rayman, Sonic are better. Then u go on to say no one will buy the game despite it being a series that has consistantly sold over 5 million.

With the install base the Wii had. It was no surprise that it sold as much as it did.

On the Wii U however...

P.S. Everybody did yawn with Donkey Kong was announced. Even d21lewis laughed when I asked him about it. You need to cool off and accept that the "hype" for DK is artificial.

DK games have always sold a minimum or 5 million.  The only one that did'nt (DKC3) still sold 3.5 million and you couldnt use DK or Diddy, and it came out when the next-gen had already launched.     On top of all of that Tropical Freeze is on pace to have 1.5 times more pre-orders then Super Mario 3D World which has already sold 1.65 million WW, and 1.4 million Wii U's have been sold since SM3DW's launch.   With the hype around it, and the appeal to casual and hardcore gamers, I would'nt even be shocked if this Donkey Kong does better then SM3DW, expecially since Nintendo has'nt overused the Donkey Kong franchise by any means.   Even the 3DS port of DKCR has sold 1.2 million, which would make it the top selling Vita game.

Ouch, be gentle with him, his name is "PlayStationLegend" ;)

And you too, trim your quote trees, they're ridiculously overlong.

Still won't "re-vitalise" the Wii U. ; )

My bad on the quote trees. I know that DKCR 3D stat is pretty harsh, but it just shows that Donkey Kong is a bigger franchise then people give it credit for. Part of that big gap between the SNES to N64 and then N64 to Gamecube had alot to do with Nintendo not making Donkey Kong games. Donkey Konga even sold over 1 million, and was'nt even a real DK game.

Damn son my eyes are bleeding from dem quote trees.

Just a heads up, you won't last long on this forum if you maintain the attitude you've displayed so far.

Not on its own, but it will make the Wii U all that more appealing as time goes on.    A library with NSMBU,NintendoLand,Pikmin 3,Wind Waker HD, and SM3DW is pretty weak.  A library with those plus DK,Mario Kart,Smash Bros,X,Hyrule Warriors, and Yoshi's Yarn begins to be very hard to ignore.

X, Hyrule Warriors, and Yarn Yoshi aren't doing much. Probably not DKC either. NSMBU and Mario 3D World are bigger than all those. X will likely be lucky to sell as well as Pikmin 3.

It's basically all on Mario Kart to salvage this, if it can't do it, nothing can.

N64 had an install base of just over 30m and DK sold over 5m

SNES had an install base of just under 50m and the three DK games averaged about 6m.

Gamecube had an install base of just over 20m and 2 spinoff titles that required accesories sold over 1m. A mainline traditional platformer would have sold around 3-5m on Gamecube.

When did I ever say anything about hype? I think this game will cause a modest boost for 2-3 weeks then sales drop back down.
