based on the "only Nintendo games sell on Nintendo platforms theory", i'd think letting third parties apply their gameplay on existing Nintendo franchises would pave the way for 3rd party games to start being successful on Nintendo platforms again. of course this is just a theory and isn't going to happen overnight, and it might even backfire, but who know?

I don't think this is new, maybe for western developers. You could be right with Next Level Games having successful Ninty titles, and I think the Mario Party games were made by Hudson, and maybe there might be more stuff like that.
Maybe it is possible, money does makes the world go round, that's how Microsoft gets into business. Although some developers don't see it that way and would try anything to weed out the competition, but as you say time will tell.
