Sony has no financial problems huh
| Train wreck said: Maybe because he has guided Nintendo through more bad periods (2001-2006), (2011-) than more good periods. He and his staff inability to read markets and their changes back to back to back losses in terms of operating income under his reign Making the Wii U and 3DS like the Wii and DS when those markets clearly moved on Not taking advantages of lead in dedicated handhelds vs Sony No plan B when everything blows up in their face...the list goes on. |
The Gamecube era wasn't a smash hit but wasn't it still profitable?

It was profitable due to their handhelds
the gameboy color, gameboy advance and even N64 contributed to sales and income during the gamecubes first fiscal year on the market, Nintendo has taken down their full year numbers from 2001 and 2002, but from 2003 to 2006 the amount of revenue generated from consoles (since Nintendo separates them out) dwindled.

I don't see that as a bad thing, though. If you're lacking in one area, compensate with another. Toad can't jump as high as Luigi but he runs faster. You see what I'm saying?
I'm saying I want to play 3D World. See ya later!

Yes. They made the GameCube cheaply and made a small profit on each system sold. That strategy also worked with: gameboy, wii, DS. So to change things up; they decided to add on a tablet and lose money on each Wii U sold instead and ignore what had worked for them in the past.
Also profitable doesn't always mean successful. Nintendo were successful in the Gamecube era because of the gameboy.

Noone's talking about sony...
Underrated youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjfV8aKrUfC0wwtCypieUUA
I don't know, people keep talking about iwata's failures in plural but if you look back the GC and GBA didn't generate losses, the DS and Wii certainly dind't generate losses and the 3DS is doing as good as it posibilly can, which means the only ''failure'' under iwata's direction is the Wii U which the last time i noticed was selling at a loss, that plus the *yen situation have made it rough for nintendo, the thing is that people act like if it was the end of the world, it's not, that's why Iwata is not leaving.

*and for most japanese companies too
PS: I actually think if nintendo went to restructure they would sell their gaming ip's and and look for other business
Yeah just talking about nintendo and Only nintendo as usual
I do not want him to go, but based on people's reactions on a wide spectrum I can see five reasons why they want him to leave:
1. Losses
2. Stubbornness (although honestly that might have more to do with the rest of the board as much or even more so than it has to do with Iwata; Nintendo is a Kyoto based company, companies in Kyoto are vey old and many are resistant to change)
3. Overestimating the power of the Wii and DS brand (Nintendo is not and does not have premium brands and it has never been a premium brand; it was big mistake thinking that 3DS and Wii U would just sell themselves at such high prices with so much competition in the consumer electronics market in general).
4. The entire Wii U situation: lack of software for the system's first year, priced too high for family market, not enough compelling titles and features to convince the typical teen - young adult male gamer to purchase (should not have even made this demographic the target), bad branding and lack of advertising from the beginning of the console's life (the name and the way they did not really explain the console in ads are two particular major offenders).
5. Misestimations on a wide scale

I agree with your last statement.
