Forums - Gaming - 3DS vs Vita 3rd Party Sales and Support

So far, Sony havent made it clear why its worth paying more for the extra power vita offers.
They let activision drop COD, let ea launch kit updates as new FIFA games and not inform rockstar of the money they made from GTA ports on the PSP.
Even the second most popular game on PSP is now exclusive to nintendo, and there is no sign of popular exclusives like god of war, gran turismo or MGS (a proper one, not remake) coming to the vita.

If they think a hardcore game like killzone is going to bring in millions of new gamers, then good luck. That game hardly sold well on the PS3 despite its install base.

The point of the thread is to bust the myth that 3rd parties performs better on Vita than on 3DS, since that isn't true.

Please bust this for me. Please provide accurate sales data for games available on both systems. As exclusives isnt a fair comparison due to variables,

In the second post of this thread, I compare games that's out on both the 3DS and the Vita. Two things should be noted: Rayman Origins was released on the Vita 3 months before the 3DS version, and those games are the 10 best selling multiplat games for the VITA, NOT the 3DS. If the systems shares any more games together, most likely they sold better on the 3DS than on Vita. The 3DS has a lot more 3rd party games it seems, so it was a lot harder to extract sales data from multiplat games on that platform, since I had to look through a hell of a lot more games than I had to go through on the Vita.

And further more, the 3DS has 47 3rd party games that sold 0.3m or more, while the Vita has... well... 10 games that did 0.3m or more.

I honestly don't know what else you want. The 3DS has the best top 10 selling 3rd party titles, the 3DS has a lot more games that did just as good, or better than the 10th best selling games on PSV, and most multiplat games sold better on 3DS.

You compare big ip with small ip witch is not a fair comparaison with actual situation you cannot compare top selling game on 3ds with top selling game on vita to proove that third party games sold better on 3ds.

But your thread proove that 3ds has better support then vita because vita has only 2 big ip and 3ds a lot more.

Man... this.... just doesn´t make any sense. It doesn´t matter if the Ips are big or small. They´re 3rd party Ips one way or another

Small ip will never outsell big ip ,vita had only 2 big ip ,3ds has 5 on the top 10 list.

There is no proof that Resident Evil and Kingdoms heart wouldn't do better on vita then on  3ds.

The thing is though, that the 11th best selling 3rd party game on 3DS still outsold the THIRD best selling 3d party game on PSV...

Japan is a big factor handheld is popular in Japan  Monster Hunter is a game big only on handheld, Assasin Creed and Call of Duty are not that big on handheld in Japan that's why Monster Hunter outsell it ,Assasin Creed and cod are big only in West Kingdoms Heart  and Dragon Question and Resident Evil are popular in Japan and even in west.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

I whole heartedly agree that Sony hasn't treated the Vita the way that HW deserves. To me it doesn't look like they've backed that system up the way they ought to, and that's a shame. We've all seen that Sony at least has a shot at 25% of the handheld market.

I compiled the top 11 games for 3DS as well:

TOP 11 3DS 3RD PARTY GAMES:

GAME PUBLISHER SALES

Professor Layton and the Legacy of Civilization A

Level 5

0.64

Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning

Marvelous Entertainment

0.61

Tales of the Abyss

Namco Bandai Games

0.58

Taiko no Tatsujin: Chibi Dragon to Fushigi na Orb

Namco Bandai Games

0.58

Rayman 3D

Ubisoft

0.57

Tousouchuu: Shijou Saikyou no Hunter-Tachi Kara Nigekire!

Namco Bandai Games

0.57

Cooking Mama 4: Kitchen Magic!

505 Games

0.53

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

Warner Bros.

0.51

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game

Disney Interactive Studios

0.50

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure

Activision 0.49

The 11th to 20th best selling 3rd party games on 3DS sold 5.58m, which is more than the Vita's Top 10...

STILL outsold Vita's Top 10 3rd party games combined, and that's with CoD and AssCreed. As you can see, the top 11-20 3rd party games on 3DS are all quite close to each other sales wise as well, unlike the top 10 for either console, and let me tell you this; it's a steady decline for game sales on the 3DS from here on, so it's not a sudden drop in sales. The sales on the 3DS is more concistent than on the PSV for 3rd parties.

There´s no proof it would, anyway, specially because Vita has a much smaller install base. Even if Vita´s 3rd parties Ips are not so big as 3DS 3rd party Ips, they´re still 3rd parties games and that what this thread is about. We´re comparing 3rd party games sales in general, not regarding if their Ips are or are not great.

This is something to worry about:  Sony doesn´t seem to care about developing games of its main franchises for Vita. Those 1-st party games sure would help.... a lot

I don't understand why people said sony  support to vita are bad we already had Hot shoot golf,Wipeout,Uncharted,Escape Plan
Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational,Hustle Kings, Little Deviants,ModNation Racers: Road Trip,Super StarDust Delta,Killzone,Tearaway, lbp,Unit 13 and i surely forget many.

Lately they are not many new first party game but it's the launch of ps4 do you think Sony will be stupid to not support ps4 with first party game and concentrate only on vita.

Gran Turismo is the only bigger ip then Uncharted that was not on vita but it's not even on ps4 can we say Sony don't care about ps4.

Sorry for you if you think first party support is bad but me i think it's good and i enjoy them.

I didnt say the games are bad, I said they are not as popular. If they are not popular, the casuals dont buy hardware, if casuals dont buy hardware then third parties dont bother, and in turn this affects sales and budgets of the exclusives.

Theres no point launching games for niche markets first and then bringing out the popular stuff when the HW sales fail. Its more logical to bring out popular stuff first to shift HW and then launch exclusives aimed at gamers with different tastes to lure in the remaining. The faster a company can get the HW to a certain amount, the more money they will make from games whether they are first or third party.

I dont expect a change in fortune for the vita until we see something like a proper call of duty or GTA los santos stories, or a god of war made by santa monica, not some second rate developer who was told to make it for some quick money.

All I want to know is when are we going to get a few big games on the Vita? I'd buy a Final Fantasy and GTA real quick if they came out on the Vita.
