Something is off with that chart, cause I thought Sony's Gaming division showed a slight profit for FY2012. It sure as heck didn't post a -2.8B loss. If that is for the whole company, than it is still wrong, as Sony posted a profit. Though, a big part of that was due to selling their buildings.
@ OP
Nintendo just misjudged the current climate of the industry. They thought the casuals were here to stay, so they followed the same formula they did with the Wii and DS. The Wii U launched for $50 more than the Wii did, so still stayed the cheapest HW option. They stayed with the underpowered HW, like with the Wii. And went with another gimmicky controller, but this time trying to appeal to those taking part in the tablet craze of a few years ago. The 3DS is basically a more powerful, 3D enabled DS. It even has the same form factor. While the 3DS has taken off since the price cut, the Wii U seems to have little chance of revival. It will probably just see nice boosts during the holidays.
Also, what kind of crappy deals did Nintendo make when deciding on the price for parts. Do they pay the same as a person would at a retail store? Cause as well as the 3DS (and its games) sells, which is at profit now, it amazes me that the Wii U can suck those profits up, and then some.
