Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo lowers forecast from 55 billion yen profit to 25 billion yen loss

If none of us knew anything about the sales or business side of Nintendo, I wonder how many of us would still want Iwata to go.

Maybe I'm one of the few who focuses on the games I'm playing and the consoles I'm playing them on and likes the way Nintendo is run. I'd like them to find a way to be profitable and successful without dramatically changing the content they're providing for my enjoyment.

That's the key question that will be asked and answered this year. This is a question that I have been asking since the poor Jan 2013.

Are there enough people (like you) that STILL care for the content Nintendo put on their home consoles to make their business profitable?

SM3DW asked the question. I am not convinced with the answer so far. MK8 and SSB will ask these questions soon.

If these fail to move consoles at a rate many expect then Nintendo will either be forced to find a way to dramitacally change that content or at the very least have a rethink of that content.

However my hope is the same as yours.

Edit: Shit!! Sorry, double post. Why did hitting "Edit" ccome up as a "Quote" window?

I mean why would you over forecast so much. 3DS should've been forecasted for 15-16m max, Wii U should've been for 4-5m. They even had many chances to cut the forecast beforehand. Disastrous by Nintendo.

Nintendo fucked up the 3ds projection back during its launch started abdomino effect of falling profit margins. Not to mntion buying up buildings and expanding teams during their consecutive losses was a strange idea. We will see how long this rides out. However, discontinuing the Wii U would be the end of them. Consumer confidence would go through the floor.

how much did they have in the bank? lol

about 15 billion

In total assets, maybe. But that's hardly money in the bank.

So they are expecting a operating loss, are they also expecting a net loss?

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

Yes they are expecting a net loss of 25,000 million yen.

Well this is bad, simple as that.

I remember that thread about when Pachter said Iwata should be fired and everyone was just like "lol Pachter is an idiot" but when I asked people why they thought Iwata should stay CEO of the company, nobody could answer me.

Would really like some of those people in here right now.

I honestly don`t know what Iwata had in mind to expect 9 million sales for the fiscal year.
When you make so many mistakes and perpetuate them for almost an year, the consequences of those mistakes are going to hit you sooner or later.
Brand confusion, almost no marketing, almost no games for a whole year, were bound to take it`s toll. I`m surprised Iwata didn´t realise that. Again, did he expect to have something more for the fiscal year?

If not for the forecast, Wii U managed to do some relevant recovery in November/December, if we look at what it had to offer throughout 2013.
With the games coming out this year, i see no problem Wii U doing at least twice aswell. Still, i think it´s time for Nintendo to reconsider a serious change in strategy, otherwise they will risk on hampering Wii U`s recovery.

3DS missing goal by that much is strange, but i think that if it wasn`t for the PS4 and XB1 hype it could have done better - even if still failing the overall projection target.

I think once hype for PS4 and XB1 settle down and demand comes to normal levels, then we will see how the rest of the market will behave. Until then, those 2 consoles will probably affect sales of everything else.

I said this in a previous thread and I'll say it again. I like Iwata, he's a nice guy but as a business man he is not fit to run Nintendo especially now with these disastrous results.
