Forums - Sales Discussion - December 2013 NPD Thread! - Everything is in the OP!

I was thinking of that kind of numbers.

All PS4 needs to do is to keep up the good work in US, since the rest of the world is all about PlayStation.

And that means vgchartz is pretty accurate for an estimate's website (minus some wrong numbers).

Congrats to Sony and PS4 for winning the holidays in the US! (Nov+Dec sales) Who would have thought earlier this year that Sony would sell more units then X1 in the US during the first Christmas. The North America market share is going to look a lot different this time around.

That adds up to 2.9m, enforcing my point.

Reinforcing your point?? Your point was that there were 500k units unaccounted for?

They claimed 3m as of December 31st, we estimate 2.91m as of the 28th so about 2.96m or so as of the 31st which rounds up to 3m. How on earth does this reinforce that Microsoft lied and that their figure is 500k higher than reality? You must be delusional.

Welcome to current VGC sales discussion.

I keep seeing 'tagged'. How do you do that?

You write the word "tagged", then the thread appears in your buddy on the left of the screen.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

December NPD – Xbox One leads in December

December NPD Group figures released today revealed Xbox One was the number one selling console in the market in the U.S., selling 908,000 units in December. Additionally, Xbox 360 continued to see strong momentum with 643,000 units sold in December, putting it in the number three spot overall, and lead for last generation hardware. Together, Xbox One and Xbox 360 held 46 percent of the hardware market share in the U.S. and showed a 10 percent year over year growth from December 2012.

“We’re grateful for the excitement and support of our fans – many purchasing their next Xbox console and many joining the Xbox family for the first time,” said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing, strategy and business for Xbox. “Our journey is just starting, with more innovation, games and entertainment coming in 2014 and far beyond.”

December 2013 NPD highlights include:

  • Total combined retail spend on the Xbox platform (Xbox One and Xbox 360) in December reached $1.39 billion, 50 percent of the combined software, hardware and accessories spend in the U.S. (Source: NPD Group, December 2013).
  • During the month of December, Xbox One held six of the top 10 spots on the new generation console game title list: “Battlefield 4,” “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Dead Rising 3,” “Ryse: Son of Rome,” “Madden NFL 25” and “Call of Duty: Ghosts” (Source: NPD Group, December 2013).

Fans continue to show their excitement for new generation Xbox One games, with U.S. consumers purchasing an average of 2.9 games* per console since launch.

As Mehdi mentioned last
week in a thank you letter to fans, 2013 was an incredible year for gamers, entertainment fans, our industry and Xbox. You can read his full letter here.

sony fans right now

Not really.. there are always one or two who are OTT but most of us are quite normal :) I personally believed Sony did have a chance of selling more, but only if they could ship enough... We know sony is going for more markets rather than fewer markets and shipping more, and this is obviously a result of that. As people have said, we dont know if thats a good idea or a bad idea, we will have to see. I think Sony believes locking down these other countries before MS even has a chance to launch is more important than matching box for box in the USA... but the validity of that will depend on how close the PS4 numbers in the USA are.

We know they still have sold more consoles in the USA than MS, and we know its over 600 odd k. We know the worldwide total gap increased based on both companies numbers... so I guess it depends on how important "winning" USA is.. or if Sony just equal MS... and win mostly everywhere else.

January is key imo, if Sony still does not have the capacity to outship to the USA, I think that would be a mistake and they could lose some momentum in the USA. It's certainly fun to see how both companies approach this though :)
