Forums - Nintendo - Next Level Games is now a Official Nintendo Second Party Developer

Who?

I thought that signing an exclusivity contract with a company means you are a second party. First party is owned by the company

Haven't heard of them before Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon

the question is what will they be working on next? will it be the rumored HD port of Luigi's Mansion: DM for WiiU (which I don't see the point of) or a new game? or will they go back to Punch-out?

It has been almost a year since LM:DM so we might see their next game in this months ND

It bloody well better be Mario Strikers on Wii U! Best sports game of the 7th gen that was and by far my most played Wii game.

The difference between before when they were Third Party developers and now being Second Party developers is, although they were making Nintendo software for Nintendo, that was with Nintendo contracting them on a single game basis acting as their Publisher (but owning the IP). Between games, or even simultaneously with those single game contrats, they were free to take any other opportunities they wanted.

Now they are Second Party, they are no longer able to make games for any other company, however they also now have much more stability (like RARE had).

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

They made punch out!! for Wii and Mario Strikers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next_Level_Games

Never played Punch out for the Wii so I can't comment on that one. But Mario Strikers was freaking amazing! the other tittles they made look very lackluster though.

means nothing long term, just look at Rare. Things can change.

Short term though its definitely good news for Nintendo as it gives them another studio to help out with first party content.

Now they need to graduate from Next Level to Level 5.

Heh, see what I did there?
