Forums - Nintendo - 3rd parties do not want to play nice? Time for Nintendo to make them hate them even more! Leverage the 3DS against them

I think that what Nintendo needs to do is approach each of the publishers with a deal - the publisher develops a Wii U exclusive within one of their popular IPs, with Nintendo fully funding development (but the publisher getting the same cut they'd get if they had been the one to fund it) and applying their own QA to it. The catch? It has to be an IP of Nintendo's choosing, and it can't then be a spinoff (it can be a non-main title, but it has to be based on the standard gameplay - doesn't have to be the standard gameplay, but it should be the same genre and the same basics of the gameplay, adapted to the Gamepad, etc).

From there, Nintendo should choose the IPs in order to ensure a full coverage of genres, etc. Have Activision make an exclusive CoD (by Treyarch), that brings in the FPS. Have Capcom make a Street Fighter. Have Square Enix make a Final Fantasy. You get the idea. The purpose is to basically prove the market for the various genres on the system while simultaneously boosting the system by getting a heap of top-selling franchises on it as exclusives.

Furthermore, with engines fully developed for the system, it becomes much harder for the publishers to then say that development costs are too high. And with Nintendo QA being applied, the games would probably be superior to most of what the publishers put out, thus potentially bringing in higher sales than ever before for the respective franchises.

In short, Nintendo needs to demolish their arguments for not putting games on Nintendo's consoles.

That is what Iwata is doing in Japan which is working great for 3DS and has also helped Wii U. But I see less of this being done by Shibata and Reggie, which is sad and makes me question Reggie's leadership (I had no faith in Shibata to begin with) because Nintendo of America's previous leders were known to aggressively hunt down exclusives for the consoles and while the Japanese divisions are still doing that no one is doing it in the West.

To be fair, there's Lego City Undercover, which was such a deal with Warner Bros... but generally, you're right. Hopefully, now that Iwata is CEO of NoA, he'll be pushing for such deals in the West, too.

Oh yes, please! I want future Ace Attorney and Layton games on devices with a better resolution!

Ace Attorney 5 was great on the 3DS, but is was a major graphical backstep after playing the HD-trilogy of Ace Attorney 1 - 3.

So forget the 3DS and bring the series to iOS, Android and Vita!

Me like some Phoenix on iOS.

I'm not going to buy a lot of third party games on my 3DS. I don't spend money on bad games.

Of course if a good third party game actually came out for the 3DS I'd buy it.

(And I didn't like Monster Hunter for those wondering)

You're forgetting that one of the reasons PSVita is mostly irrelevant is because Monster Hunter switched. If all the companies switched to Vita, you thing Ninty can keep 3DS afloat by themselves? If so, why hasn't that naturally worked for Wii U?

This. 3DS would falter but still be decent, but Vita would take off. It won't take much for that to happen in Japan.

Also, Japanese home console games aren't huge.

This is a bit desperate of Nintendo too isn't it? Doesn't inspire confidence when you have to blackmail people/companies.

3rd party studios need to stop pretending the Wii Remote doesn't exist when making Wii U first/3rd person shooters. Resident Evil 4 Wii was amazing. The Conduit controlled fantastically. Now the only shooter where I can use the Wii Remote is Call of Duty. That's bull. I'm not saying not to support standard controls, but the fact that I didn't have at least the option play Deus Ex: Human Revolution with the superior pointer controls of the Wiimote on a NINTENDO console is a travesty. Fix it.

No way. If Nintendo tries to force 3rd parties to do anything using the 3DS's success as a threat, all of them will just go where they have more freedom, which is PSVita, just like what happened when the PS1 released. Then instead of just 1 Nintendo system with no 3rd party support, there will be 2 of them.
