Forums - Gaming - When Vita and the Wii U pass the Dreamcast sales marker will you stop saying they are doomed?

the gamegear was available from 10/1990 to 4/1997...im sure if you give the Vita 6 1/2 years you will get a print larger than 10 million...

There are less 'PS Vita is doomed' threads here than 'Wii U is doomed' threads.

That's because pretty much everyone accepted the fact that Vita is a commercial failure and won't light up the chartz. It might do decent in the end if Japan goes behind it enough but that's all. Damn even Sony pretty much accepted it. There were a lot of Vita is doomed threads when there were still arguments and it mattered.

When Nintendo fans in general here, will accept the same thing, Wii U is doomed thread will get as low as Vita doom threads.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

comparing a console releasing in todays market with more markets and people to sell to to a console releasing 13/14 years earlier?

People use to compare PS3 to PS1, and their sales are close enough.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

There are a few things that I think people should remember:

- The market has grown considerably since 2000, meaning the numbers should be seen in the light of todays market.
- To compare with Dreamcast in itself shows just how much problem WiiU and Vita has.
- I would say that both GC and XBox failed when they both managed just over 20mn in sales. Those aren´t strong sales.

I have a Vita and I don´t like the idea of WiiU failing. It seems WiiU had a great holiday and I would be happy to say I was wrong if WiiU get more successful. At the moment though, it is clear that it is in big problem.

There's always going to be someone to discredit an achievement by any console/handheld. I recall people saying the Wii was doomed back when VGChartz had the pie graph and the Wii portion looked like Pac-Man. The PS3 was doomed for at least the first 3 years when it was selling less than the PS2 but it still managed to end the generation in 2nd. And the Xbox 360 was supposed to be doomed once it's attempt to infiltrate the Japanese market ended in less than 2 million in sales. Truth be told, none of those systems failed. But there was always somebody out there to attempt to discredit anything that any of those systems have done.

Maybe they all failed but we didn't noticed with all those incredible sales.

Wii U could sell more than XB1 and PS4 lifetime but to trolls and fanboys it will always be "doomed."

tbh I dont understand how anyone can call a system doomed when it sold 5m units. I mean thats 5m more units more than everything those people will ever sell. And it makes 5m people happy. How many people are happy because thos doom-sayers exist?

I mean think about it. Third party studios say noone wants a WiiU yet they often have sales below 1 2 3 4 or 5 million copies. 5m people bought a 300 dollar system compared to the e.g 1-5 m people that bought the 60 dollar game. So who is offering the product noone wants here?

I know you cant compare hardware to software but a 300 dollar system that sells more often than a 60 dollar game is obviously more successful than the game.

even if Wii U sell more than PS2 still will be doomed because it has Nintendo logo on its box

Truthfully, I do not want any console or handheld to fail. It would be such a bad impact upon the industry and having one company to do whatever they want if they have a monopoly would be bad upon us all. Personally, I support the Vita as much as I can because I love it and I want it to succeed. It is an awesome handheld that only people who have played one could understand just how many great games there are on it and how good the device is. I hope it finds success because I do not want to see Nintendo become the only handheld maker again, even though I also love the 3ds. Also, I do not want to see the Wii U go away because we will miss all of Nintendos great console exclusives that many people love. I hope to purchase one soon to go along with my PC and (eventual) PS4.
