Forums - Gaming - When Vita and the Wii U pass the Dreamcast sales marker will you stop saying they are doomed?

He's comparing Vita vs 3DS and Wii U to newly released systems to make his argument.

The thing about comparing to competition is, it doesn't take into account how much money is actually being made on the format you're discussing. As long as they make money, they can have niche markets that keep going.

Wii U is a Nintendo system, it will always be doomed.

PS Vita is a Sony system, it was never actually doomed.

I thought this was clear?

The question is why would any of the 3 large companies be interested in niche markets?

making games for niche markets is ok.

making consoles for niche markets is stupid.

Obviously they wont stop. But i agree with you, it would be great if they did and we could talk about games instead.

They didn't make them for niche markets, they just haven't caught on as hoped. But now they have to get them to a point where they will at least tick over. Just cutting their losses would ultimately cost far more (especially to brand reputation as well as ensuring R&D etc is never recouped) than just nursing them through.

No, the console market has grown greatly since the 5th generation.

The market has grown alot since the days of the Dreamcast, so Wii-U would have to sell more. 15 million is probably the minimum, though anything under 20 million would still be a big failure.

Not long until Vita passes it! Maybe 3-3.5 months or so.

And no, the sales would still be abysmal. Beat the GC/Xbox and I would consider saying the sales are something else than bad.

Vita could have 20 million by E3 2015. So then you can stop saying it is doomed then! One down, Wii U soon after.

I really doubt WiiU would sell less than GC. So Yes it isn't doomed.

You have to adjust for market inflation. The doomed threshold today is at least at 20 million. Depending on how well this gen goes maybe more.

comparing a console releasing in todays market with more markets and people to sell to to a console releasing 13/14 years earlier?
