We don't even know shit about SMT x FE. I doubt it's coming out next year.

We knew even less about Super Mario 3D World and Wind Waker HD a year ago.

If 2014 doesn't win, Nintendo will really have to re-evaluate the Wii U's position in the market.

It should do well in 2014 as I think it'll get another price drop to "mass market" pricing. (Sub £199 in the UK) and Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros will help to bring onboard the old faithful that haven't got around to migrating yet.

Mario Kart 8 could also be the game that convinces some Wii owners it's time to trade up.

Things will be slow for the next few weeks, probably going sub 40k. Donkey Kong will give a nice boost for a few weeks then sales will go back down and hopefully Mario Kart releases sooner rather than later (late March/early April) which will for sure give Wii U a boost. Those 2 games alone should be enough to keep it up YoY for the first half of the year.

After that hopefully they can release Bayonetta 2, X, Hyrule Warriors, Yarn Yoshi, Sonic between May-Oct to give it a consistant stream of exclusives from late Spring-early fall. Smash Bros plus one other relatively big game for the holidays and a Mario Kart 8 bundle for $199 on black friday.

I think Wii U will sell over 5 million this year granted they space out there releases and dont have any multiple monthlong droughts.

I am confident that Nintendo knows they need to release more than just two titles in the first half of 2014. They saw what a lack of software did to them in 2013, and depsite what some seem to want to believe, they're hardly stupid. I would think along with Wii Fit U, DKC, and Mario Kart, we should be seeing at LEAST one other release from Nintendo before June.

I think Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon HD will be announced soon and release in March and I think Bayonetta could release in May/June. I was just saying those 2 games alone are enough to be up YOY for the first half of the year.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I hope you're right, I've held off playing Luigi's Mansion 2 since the rumours of a HD release despite already owning it >_

2013 had some good games. Pikmin 3, W101, Lego City, MHU, Rayman, WW, and 3D Mario all came out. Didn't do squat. 2014 is really hard to predict! Kart could bring the console back from the dead or give it just a bump.

You're ignoring the fact that from Jan-July 2013, the system had hardly ANYTHING come out on it retail. There were really two short bursts of software, in March and in May. That was it. Software releases didn't REALLY pick up until September or October. Meaning, at most, only the last four months of the year really saw a healthy release schedule. People aren't going to want to buy a console that appears to "have no games on it", so with a stretch of months where hardly anything is coming out, coupled with basically zero console advertising................yeah. The Wii U was functionally dead for much of 2013. So there will be no comparison to 2014, because that's not going to happen again.

I was arguing against the blind belief that simply because the year has Smash, Kart, and DK it'll beat 2013. If you want to factor in momentum and advertising, then I'd agree. We also don't know anything concrete though. I'm not expecting it to happen, but Kart could be pushed back to summer and then as far as droughts go it'd be a repeat of last year.

Could be worse, PS4 and X1 will not make life easy. Most of the games coming are nintendo fan oriented, nothing to bring in new fans new sales.

If 4 or X get some killer game that takes the gaming world by the balls 2014 will be brutal for the U.

I will be following this and rooting for Wii U 2014. Keep up with the updates mate :)

2014 is going to kick ass: Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros 4, X, Bayonetta 2 and maybe Hyrule Warriors. For sales to stay at good levels Nintendo needs to market the Wii U and its games  a lot. If they do that, then  the Wii U is going to have a decent 2014.
