ever since its announcement there has been drama and contoversy following TitanFall. The game obviously has a lot going on for it, and i wonder just how much Microsoft payed for the game. i have no idea how these things go, and everything i say is pure specualtion and just a guess.

Personally i think microsoft paid BIG time for TitanFall, specially since its GOTHAFOMK. im going by pure speculation here, and using this to do the math.

The paragraphs below are just my own personal calculations to guess the amount, summary is, i think its 150$~200$.

according to this, EA would have made 27$ from each copy sold at 60$ sold on the PlayStation platforms if it was going to release on it if it was retail. in the Digital Space EA would make 70% of a sale while Sony would make the rest, resulting in 42$ of profit for EA.

looking at sales of other FPS games on PS3, Killzone usually sold around 3 million. BF sold between 2 and 6 million, CoD sold between 5 and 12 million ( after CoD4). On PS4, Killzone, BF and CoD have all sold over 1 million units.

On PS3 and PS4 combined. im predicting, EA would have sold around 2.8 million units of TitanFall at full price on retail. 200K digital at full price. and another 1 million at retail avarging at 30$ (were i would just cut EA's profit at half). according to that EA would have made. 97.5 million dollars.

now their is also another source of revenue, which is DLC, in my calculations i am saying that EA will put out atleast 2 DLC's with a 15$ pricetag. and i am predicting around 500K sales for each DLC pack, meaning 1 Million sales from all DLC . again sony takes 30% so EA would profit 10.5$ from each sale. meaning another extra 10.5$ million. so that would put my estimate at 108$ from PlayStation.

So my calcuations bring me to around 108$ million that EA could have made from selling TitanFall on PlayStation, also i should note, i am low balling the amount of sales, i am thinking it could have easily sold 5 million units on PS. but anyways, i dont believe EA would have done it unless Microsoft paid them more and made it worth while, so i would actually say MS paid EA around 150$ million dollars, and i wouldnt be surprised if it reached 200 Million.

Again, this are my own calculations, i am sure the way these things are done are not like this, but this is just a guess after all. if i forgot anything, have wrong reasoning point it out, but dont be a jerk about it. anyways thats what i think. 150$~200$ million. i know there are other factors, like currency of other countries for example. i wasnt trying to be precise, but just give a guess.

this thread is about guessing, not facts

Youre not going to receive a well informed answer unless you talk to people who are actually in the business.

They put One billion into their first year's library, so divide that with their library and you may get a guestimate.

In your pie chart, the makers get .... nothing?

I really can't guess.

I just can say $150-200m seems a lot for a game that won't cost that to be developed... it uses the old Source engine.

Edit - Fixed the engine.

Nowhere near 150mill. For that price they could cover full cost of development. Isn't it using the Source engine? So no custom engine development here.

And for 150 mill, that would guarantee full exclusivity for this game and sequels which is not the case. It's being released also on PC and the sequels look like they will be on PS4.

I think it's hard to give a number at this point but your estimation isn't too bad at all.

I am too lazy to do math and I suck at it but I guess 200 million dollars is about the right amount of money Microsoft paid for the exclusive.

I think if the game performs really really well we could see another Gears of War situation. Titanfall 2 and 3 only on Xbox One.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

Probably 800 million dollars.

Hard to say. Your calculations seem ok though but you forget that not everyone would buy it at launch for the full retail price. Of course, that would also be hard to judge. It's a new IP and really can't be compared to the likes of Killzone, let alone CoD.

It would be at least $100 million though. Perhaps more if MS bought the series and not just the first iteration, hmm... I'll wait till the thread develops a bit more and other theory get discussed before making a full estimate!!
